The embargo lifts on Monday officially. This shows the initial connection and power on. Video is in Italian but you can turn on auto translated captions.

I’m just so confused by the use case for this. Is it solely for use in the bathroom? Because everywhere else I would prefer to play on a TV.

I’m a dad with a wife and a 3 year old. I barely get the TV to myself anymore. So rather than doom scrolling my phone while pbs kids is playing, I can play Ragnarok now. I have a steam deck and can technically remote play with that, but playing those PS exclusives in 720p is kinda a bummer. And using a Kishi with my phone is too small, the aspect ratio doesn’t match so you get black bars, and I get interrupting text messages, phone calls, and it depletes my battery faster.

On the opposite side of things. There are plenty of non gamer parents with older gamer kids who constantly beg for tv time to game. I can see a lot of parents buying this for their kids so they can game on the portal while Mom and Dad watch TV.

Plenty of use cases. It just may not be for you. I view it like the elite controller. That’s $200 for just a controller. For me I think it’s silly to buy that for the price when a regular dual sense is so much cheaper, but for others they love the adjustable triggers, replaceable sticks, and all the features.

I think the reason the Portal gets dunked on more than something like the Elite controller is because people remember that PlayStation used to make dedicated handhelds. And for those people who loved the PSP and the Vita, realizing that this isn’t a true handheld is kind of a bummer.
