I mean, with legos it’s not even that bad, because the pieces look different; i have a nightmare box full of screws and nuts with diffrent size and thread i ripped from old stuff, finding the screw you need is an herculean feat

Around my parts we call that the Box of Miracles… It’s where you go rummaging when you can’t find the screw you need anywhere else.

I inherited several of those from my grandfather. They’re a pain in the ass to size properly, but they can be really useful in a pinch. Especially the tiny ones.

“I SWEAR IT’S HERE. I REMEMBER! …unless it got out when I was taking out something else… oh god…” I then proceed to dump the bucket on the ground or in a bigger bucket so I can spread them out and search for them better"

I’ve got a huge clear box of Legos that I haven’t touched in years. I could probably donate all of it though…

Literally sell it because Lego appreciates faster than gold. I bought a huge tub of Lego for $150 CAD and if I was to buy each set contained off of Rebrickable, I’d be spending thousands of dollars.

I have several sets in there, but I’d rather give them to a kid who’s never had Legos than sell them to a collector

Sell them to the collector and buy the kid cheap knockoff Legos from China.

While you are at it, buy the parents a cheap bottle of wine and a “condolences for your loss” in case the ‘edible’ paint they used on the Legos turned out to be not that edible after all.

Cheap Legos are horrible. Nothing sticks properly so building something is futile.

Fair point, he should also throw in a bottle of glue just to make sure that the wine and the card aren’t going to waste.

I still have a bunch of the instructions, could to through and make the sets and sell those while the misc pieces get donated to like, Savers or something

Personally, if I had them and wanted to get rid of them, I’d rather give them to a kid who can’t afford them than make a profit. Seeing a poor kid’s face light up when you gave them a box of legos would be worth a lot more than $150 to me. (Unless I was desperate for the money, obviously.)

Well, and now you need it and can’t find it. With your fist clenched you agressively search through the box for that piece, but only after 10 minutes you realize that this piece was indeed in your fist the whole time

Boy howdy do I know that frustration all too well. I keep a lot of my spare pieces in a big jar and whenever I go looking for one I know I have - suddenly I don’t have one like it at all. What the hell? Are aliens using my spare lego parts to build a painful new form of bumpy anal probe or something? I know I saw that piece in there just two days ago!!!

The older your are, the less immagintative you are, the less likely you are to see a simple 2x4 block as a spaceship.

Personally, I would totally ride a Lego block into space, even if I died as a result. As long as no better options were available.

I have the Rebel Blockade Runner UCS, I tried building it a few times and just couldn’t find the right pieces. This set was before Lego started including numbered bags so it’s just one big pile of bricks.
