Hey there, this community is to help test pre-release versions of Thunder!

I will be releasing pre-release versions here so that anyone that is interested can help out with general testing to find any major bugs or issues that would otherwise affect the larger amount of users who are currently in the alpha-releases.

As such, be fully prepared to know that these pre-release versions may contain major bugs which could cause Thunder to crash or behave unexpectedly. When testing a new pre-release version posted here, please try to limit the posts to bugs, and not feature requests.

As these are pre-release versions, I will most likely not use GitHub as a way to send out these pre-releases. I am trying to find an alternative site to upload the corresponding APK/IPA files, so feel free to suggest any sites that may fit that purpose!

Thanks again for all the support!

I would also like to ask if anyone is interested in becoming a moderator for this community or the main Thunder community. It has been growing at a incredible pace, and it is becoming more and more difficult for me to look through posts and answer all the questions that people may have.

Hello. I really like your app and have been using it along with Jerboa because they are the ones that function the best for me. I’d love to help test or help out with anything. I am all new to the Lemmy stuff and I am hoping the some good mod tools get implemented. Thanks!

Thanks! I think the main things right now is just testing and making sure that the next upcoming release won’t have any major breaking issues that prevent users from using it!

Thanks! Would you happen to have any suggestions on where to host the pre-release files?

Maybe an alternative GitHub repo? I don’t know much on that topic, sorry

Yeah, I think I’d consider a parallel GitHub repo that spits out nightly builds

Hmm, creating a whole separate one makes it more work to keep the two repositories in-sync with each other

I can maybe try to release pre-releases alongside the main GitHub releases, but I’m not too confident whether or not creating a new release there will trigger the in-app notification to pop up

You can update the logic to only trigger on releases tagged with a certain tag? Or ignore releases tagged with a nightly tag or something like that.

Yeah, I’ll probably do a test pre-release on GitHub later today to see how it affects users! Thanks for the suggestion

Are you going to use F-Droid for nightlies as well? It’d be convenient.

No plans yet for F-Droid for nightlies - this is mainly because I don’t have the capacity to handle all of that at the moment! Maybe in the future when I have more time on my hands I’ll try to get that working

It’s been largely me still handling releases, implementation of features, communication with the community, and also testing so I’ve been swamped 😅

On iOS, side loading isn’t really supported. I think you’re limited to TestFlight, right?

Unfortunately, yeah its limited to TestFlight unless you install something like AltStore. Although, I think that most bugs that pop up will affect both Android and iOS
