    Travel Tubac Tubesday

Tubes of Tabac creme and aftershave balm standing next to an E-bar leaning on the handle of an ESC Medium Jock handle in front of a decorated bathroom wall.

    • Razor: Ever-Ready Natural Angle (E-Bar)
    • Blade: Personna GEM PTFE
    • Brush: Executive Shaving Medium Jock
    • Lather: Mäurer & Wirtz Tabac Original Cream
    • Post shave: Mäurer & Wirtz Tabac Original aftershave balm

First of a few travel shaves in merry old England, and I brought my made in England E-bar for the occasion. I’m not sure the brush is made here, but at least its branding is from Scotland.

    Happy Tabac Tuesday, everyone!

What do you think of the E bar? For me it’s the worst of the GEMs I’ve tried. Way too mild and pretty inefficient

Oh, really? Mine’s definitely not inefficient. I prefer Micromatics because they have the coolest mechanism in shaving technology, but I don’t see any fault in how the E-bar shaves.

I think my Flying Wings might be milder, and I like those, too.

I can’t get excited about the E-bar because it’s a bit boring, though.

Fair warning: it is remarkably unremarkable. That being said, I bought one for the exact same reason :D

I’m happy to lend you mine if you want to try, just don’t expect anything mindblowing.

Thanks! I’d take you up on it if it wasn’t for the fact that for a bit more than the price of transatlantic shipping I can buy myself one. I don’t feel too compelled to buy a new razor right now, but when the urge strikes it’s good to know what I can look at.

    June 13, 2023 – Tempo Tuesday

    • Brush: Declaration Grooming B11 Jefferson “Lake Pelham Watson” one-off
    • Razor: Gillette Slim
    • Blade: 7 O’Clock – Super Stainless (Green)
    • Lather: Storybook Soapworks – Fresca Intensa
    • Post Shave: Australian Private Reserve – Fresca Intensa

On my running calendar, Tuesdays are workout days. Today, that meant a 40-minute tempo run in the pre-dawn swampiness of central Florida summer. I saw 5 bunnies on the first lap around the neighborhood. On the second lap, I saw 5 bunnies and an armadillo.

Cooled off in the shower and had an excellent shave with Fresca Intensa. The Storybook Soapworks soap just exploded into a rich, well-hydrated lather with minimal effort. I dialed the slim down to 5 and did 2 quick passes to get a shave that’s plenty good enough for my day full of Zoom meetings.

Doing my SOTDs on wetshavingdatabase.com and then copy-pasting them into Lemmy isn’t half bad. Certainly no worse than copy-pasting them into Reddit. Fuck Spez.

    • Razor: Ever-Ready Streamline
    • Lather: B&M Fern
    • Brush: Muhle 23mm Synth
    • Blade: PTFE (4)

I rarely post a SotD, not sure I ever have on Reddit, only now and then at B&B. But somehow I feel motivated by this new place. This was last night (June 13th somewhere!) and a bit of a rush so no straight but the Streamline with a blade in the sweet spot was certainly no hardship! I actually had put off grabbing one of these since people didn’t seem to highlight the shave particularly and while it’s cool looking I wasn’t about to splash out just for that. Glad I bumped into a user-grade one because it instantly tied my Clog-pruf for favourite Gem shave. Bit milder but not so very much as the newer ones and, while I don’t mind light razors and find some modern ones a bit heavy, the heft here is just right.

    June 13, 2023 – [42]uesday

    • Brush: West Coast Shaving Clear Smoke Burlwood 26 mm
    • Razor: Timeless Titanium Slim
    • Blade: Durablade Sharp Titanium (4)
    • Lather: Barrister and Mann – 42
    • Post Shave: Barrister and Mann – 42

A cold and rainy late spring day and I felt like reaching for some more Barrister and Mann. I’m getting a better appreciation for the Ti Slim. I used to think it was too aggressive, but I was just applying too much pressure since I’m used to heavier razors.

    Hope your day is bright.

I wanted to keep the sample kill attempt going. I overlook my samples too much. I should try to get through them all. I have way too many. I could use nothing but samples the rest of the year and still not kill them all. I’ve got 6 months worth of Stirling samples alone.

I had the problem of them all falling to the bottom of my bin where my soap is stacked. Pulled them out into their own space so I remember them better.

    Jun 13, 2023 - Phantom of Kyiv

    • Prep: Klar - Activated Charcoal - Face Soap
    • Brush: Shore Shave Honey Jar 26mm Plisson Knot
    • Razor: Blackland Razors Blackbird Ti
    • Blade: Personna Lab Blue [13]
    • Lather: Areffa Soap - Phantom of Kyiv - Soap
    • Post Shave: Areffa Soap - Phantom of Kyiv - Aftershave

Phantom of Kyiv is a refreshing scent: woody with a citrus opening. Areffa has several soap bases, and this is in their beef tallow base. It was easy to work with and produced a slick, dense lather.

    Rating: 4/5

Edit: I also wanted to point out the cool Made in Ukraine stamp in the soap.

    • Lather: Barrister and Mann – Mûir(e) Wood
    • Post Shave: Summer Break Soaps – Teacher’s Pet

Busted out the Karve to do a full 3 pass today. Was going to let my hair grow out this summer, but the inflammation and dandruff is already unbearable, so definitely shaving my head again tomorrow.

    6/13/23

    • Brush: Muninn Woodworks w/ 24mm Silvertip
    • Razor: Koraat 8/8, Near Wedge Square Point
    • Lather: House of Mammoth - Voices
    • Post Shave: House of Mammoth - Voices Aftershave Splash
    • Fragrance: House of Mammoth - Voices EdP

I picked up this Voices EdP from the zaar and it just showed up last night. This is Mrs. Puddings favorite scent in my den. I really like this one too. Sweet without leaning too hard into gourmand. Mrs. Pudding is always blown away by how Ben managed to capture the smell of the rice.

The near wedge on this Koraat was a stark contrast compared to the thin and light Fili yesterday. An awesome shave all the same, however. Just not as chatty.

    • Post Shave: Zingari Man - AS Balm Unscented

First time using a SBS soap and it did not disappoint. Prom King is a great scent and one that I could probably use as a daily driver. MOAR BOAR did a fine job of getting the soap up to a great lather and I always appreciate when there’s almost no feedback from a splash.

Time to get this Tuesday rolling and get more coffee into the system. Have a great day all!

    SOTD Tuesday 13 June, 2023

    • Prep: WDCB.org Chicago’s Home for Jazz
    • Prep: Warm Shower
    • Brush: Van der Hagen Boar
    • Lather: Chiseled Face Midnight Stag 1st of 10 samples
    • Razor: 1940s Gillette Gold Ball-End Tech
    • Blade: Shaving Revolution Platinum Series (9)
    • Post: Nivea Men Maximum Hydration Moisturizing Post Shave Balm
    • Post: Brut Classic After Shave

First time with the gold ball-end tech. First of all, the tomato skin comes off when I rub it with my dry thumb. This razor is really starting to glisten. The shave was better than I expected - as long as I rode the cap. Otherwise it passed over the hair without much cutting. Minor stinging with my balm and some irritation, especially on my neck. Small portions of my neck are still tender, but this is typical since my neck hair lays flat - sometimes I gotta press a little. Not BBS, but DFS which is nice. I supposed the shaves will get better with experience. Have a great day, everybody!
