I had mine in the 90s when I moved out on my own the first time. That said, pretty sure it was a charity-shop purchase.

Yes they were popular. No cell phones where you could just set an alarm. And people didn’t have a TV in every room in their house as many do today. It was normally in the bedroom. So it was your morning alarm and the radio was the entertainment
