A pregnant Texas woman who says her unborn baby has a genetic condition and carrying the child to term could threaten her life filed suit against the state Tuesday, asking a court to declare she has the right to terminate the pregnancy.

Kate Cox said the state’s current abortion ban puts her husband and her gynecologist at legal risk if she has an abortion in Texas.

The lawsuit is believed to be one of the first attempts in the country by an individual seeking a court-ordered abortion since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade last year, according to the New York Times.

It really feels like the US is two separate countries at this point. One that feels like the US and the other that feels like a dystopian shithole their government wants to build walls around so no one gets in or out.

It has been for a long time, if not more countries than that. Lots of fundamentalists left to continue setting up a religious ethnostate in Israel/Palestine, committing atrocities and murdering Palestinians because they are in their so-called ‘historical land’. The others, the Christians, stayed to set up their own bonkers situations in places like Utah and the deep south. The Mason-Dixie Line still seems to exist.

You can blame the city/country tribalism.

It’s really sad, but that’s how the nation is divided.

This is so messed up. The fetus has trisomy 18 and will likely die hours to days after birth, but they don’t care about that or the mother’s anguish knowing she’s carrying a doomed fetus. What pieces of shit.
