Jerboa is already shaping up to be a great app this early on (it’s reminding me a bit of earlier versions of Sync), but one little gripe I have so far with the newest version is forced app localisation.
I’m usually more annoyed than anything else by most apps that are suddenly being translated into my language (German), and I’d much rather keep the standard English version.
Is there any way you could make it so that we are able to choose which language the app is displayed in? I can’t even force English in the android app settings.
Anyway, as I said, great app so far. Thanks for the hard work!
Agreed. While I love apps supporting my native language, I hate seeing half-translated things. So I usually use English until localization is complete. Additionally figuring out how things work can often be easier in English first (matching terms in troubleshooting and guides).
Yeah, troubleshooting in different languages can be a veritable pain in the butt.
Doesn’t look like there is a github issue for that yet, can you please create one? https://github.com/dessalines/jerboa/issues
Done!
I do agree allowing an override in Jeroba would be a nice to have, as a workaround you should be able to put English as your first language in your android system settings and that will tell apps to localize to that first. edit: reworded
Problem is, I’d like to keep my system language set to German if possible.
Android already offers the capability to set default languages on a per app basis, which even works for the otherwise absolutely dreadful official Reddit app (which used to switch between languages all the time), but jerboa doesn’t seem to support that yet.
Didn’t know about the per app language setting, that’s really neat!
Right? I think they introduced it with android 13. However, in order for this to work, the app developer has to specifically enable this for their app, so it doesn’t work with all apps, unfortunately. But it’s a neat little feature nonetheless.
Yes, please! I was wondering what was up with that. I started to question myself if it has been like that all the time.
Yeah, me too. It’s always quite the surprise (and very rarely of the good kind) when an app suddenly changes languages without any sort of notice.
I use Language Selector to force language on any app, requires Shizuku
