Just a quick post to say thank you for the great app, and see what others are thinking.

I’ve been trying wefwef, Mlem and Memmy. I have subscribed to many communities from other instances, and a lot of them are still “subscription pending”, strangely wefwef is the only app that shows these communities and not just the ones that are no longer pending. A feature I’d love to see implemented would be haptics when sliding to upvote/downvote etc.

What do you appreciate most about wefwef, and what are you looking forward to that isn’t already implemented?

I’m desperate for any of these apps to have auto-mark-as-read once you’ve scrolled past it on your phone, like Apollo. I’ll pop open comments if i’m interested. But I wanna see pics/read comments and not see the same thread again.

I’m happy I can at least mark things as read by looking at a pic, opening comments or upvoting but yeah…auto-read will be amazing and bring my consumption level to Apollo levels.

edit: of course, amazed by the progress of all developers in such a short time.

Am I doing something wrong? Nothing I open is marked as read. Do I have to change a setting?

On my PC, on the lemmy.world website there’s an option, similar to ‘show read posts’

Untick this, then save. This will carry forward to your phone apps :)

Appreciate the help. I looked but only saw the “show read post” setting. Unchecking that makes the post disappear completely if i vote on it. No other setting looks appropriate.

Also seems weird that would be an instance setting rather than an app setting. I do see this setting in Memmy. Just not wefwef.

I think more Apollo style where opening the post and then going back to the feed view would turn it lighter grey, indicating that you have read it.

The familiarity is nice, since the workings are a bit different being federated. Definitely superior now that I’m getting used to it.

Apollo refugee. Moved from Reddit (fuck you spez!).

I really enjoy wefwef. The user interface is very similar to Apollo. Naturally, Apollo is extremely feature rich when it comes to filtering and subscription management etc and I’m sure it will get much better over time.

wefwef is impressive tbh, keen to see where it goes.

I have not seen the need yet to try others as this is early journey for me.

Also here from day 1 Apollo, and have abandoned Reddit as well.

I like wefwef, but I found I had a lot of issues with it where things weren’t loading or processing as well as they do on other apps, so I have about 5 different ones that I’ve been rotating between - and my favorite has been Memmy so far.

I do see many benefits to wefwef, I think it’s super clean and I see the appeal, plus it’s definitely something I’ll keep checking back in on - but I’m happy to experiment with all of them right now.

Forgot to mention in my post but I am also coming from Apollo. When everything started to go to shit on Reddit I realized if Apollo isn’t there I’m not gonna be either. Began this transition a little while ago, found which instance I wanted to be based in then made this account. I’ll admit thought the instance matters less than I originally thought it would.

“Subscription pending” is a Lemmy site/server issue, not associated with any particular apps. If you try to unsubscribe and re-subscribe a few times in a row, it will usually go through eventually unless the instance is down or erroring out too much.

When I first started using Lemmy, the “subscription pending” thing bugged me and I mashed the subscribe button a lot to get rid of it. But it doesn’t seem to actually mean much in practice and I stopped paying attention to it. I still see posts in my feed from communities where my subscription is pending, same as the subscribed ones.

Ah ok, that’s good to know! I always assumed it meant it didn’t go through.

I’ve heard that the pending thing is a visual bug, and you are actually subscribed.

Interesting, makes it even weirder that Mlem and Memmy don’t show them as subscribed. It is early days though, very happy to have something to make the mobile experience smoother already.

I really like the UI despite it being made to look good on iPhones so when it becomes an app I wish that an android version is made available too.

Juggling two version is a sure road to burn out from having to do the same work twice and / or will lead to one version being given all the love while the other is left to have marginal updates.

Yeah I could imagine being on Android and getting a very iOS design language app could be odd. Assuming it’s just because Apollo was the biggest Reddit app and was for iOS. Have you tried any of the other apps?

This is the best experience of all the apps I used. Good design is good design . Simple yet very legible. Of course It had some quirks but again because it’s good design I very quickly adapted to them. iPhones are still smartphones so their designs philosophy is still good for other phones.

I have a big hunch that apple would not allow the app on their appstore for allowing their design philosophy to be used on other phones as an attempt to keep their walled garden tightly locked so I’ll just enjoy it for the meantime.
