Best thing about Lemmy so far, its avoided the work computer filters so I can post from the desk!
I wonder if the filters would be able to keep up with all the instances. My non-technical expertise would assume if one instance is blocked you could just browse from another.
I’ll kick us off…
All day planning meetings that start at 6am are a huge reason to pursue FIRE. I can’t wait for the day I never have to do this again.
It’s like planning committees. The best planning committee is a committee of one. I’ve run my own company for the last 25 years and the sheer pleasure of being able to dispense with all the corporate bullshit is immense. I’m supremely grateful. I remember sitting in morning meetings where someone would drone on and on for ages about something which didn’t concern me a bit. I felt like gnawing my arm off out of sheer frustration.
That’s appalling. Are you working across multiple time zones or something?
Yep. When India is 12 hours different and you have a bunch of people there, someone is starting at 6am for these large group planning exercises. They used to alternate it so we sometimes started our day at 6pm, but it was too late for people on the east coast when we did that.
Pain. Hopefully that means you’re off early as well.
I know it’s a pointless brain exercise, but I’m wondering where the inflection point is between rooting for a bear market to buy stonks on sale versus growth in a bull market because I want to RE in 7-10 years…
Boring middle for sure.
I have mixed feelings about the provisions of the TCJA expiring in 2026. The lower tax brackets and QBI have made Roth contributions really attractive. However, I would really enjoy having lower taxable income with more Traditional contributions, which I would plan to do in 2026. Sometimes I feel like I’m planning too far ahead, since for all I know, the TCJA could become permanent.
I started a personal project recently and it really invigorated me for my regular job. It feels good to work on something outside my regular job for some reason.
That’s awesome. I find having accomplishments outside of career/money focused ambitions really makes the boring middle a lot more enjoyable.
I feel like I lost some of the passion I had for my job after starting FIRE research, so I’m trying to get back into it. I don’t want to spend the rest of my years at work in perpetual boredom/indifference!
