Sorry if this has been asked before, but I can’t seem to find a way to search the wefwef community for the answer (second question is therefore “how do I search alfor a term inside a community?!”)

You should be able to configure in your Lemmy profile in the Lemmy ui
Go to the website and change your user settings
Which website? I’m using wefwef as a web app that’s pointing to https://wefwef.app
Your instance’s website, where you signed up.
After changing that setting you can return to WefWef
