Looking for headphones for use at my computer. Primarily for gaming but also music. Lots of people online recommend the Sennheiser HD 560s but I figured I’d ask to see if there’s anything else worth looking at. I think I want open backs since I’ll primarily use them at my desk by myself.

My criteria are: -Decent price (around $200 or less) -Option for microphone attachment (also looking for recommendations there)

If I were to go with the HD560s, would I need an amp to take full advantage of them? If so, I would also like recommendations for that too, as I don’t really know anything about them. Any other advice you could give me would be very beneficial. I’m new to the audiophile scene and don’t have a ton to spend on the best of the best in gear. Thanks!

Look at Crinacle’s headphones recommendations for gaming: https://crinacle.com/guide/gaming/

The hd560s is on there, but this may give you other options.

I’m not playing many social games at the moment, but when I was, I used an antlion modmic. It allowed me to get the good headphones I wanted and still have a mic for when I need it. I recommend it.

If I get the BEYERDYNAMIC DT880 PRO

Will I need a dac/amp to take full advantage or can I just plug them straight into my computer? Also, if I do need an amp, will I be able to plug the mic into it?

Sorry if these are basic questions I’m very new to this.

you can plug straight into your computer, the only reason you would want an amp is if it was too quiet.

The DT880 doesn’t have a mic so if you want to get an amp you would only plug the headphones into the amp. The mic can stay plugged into the computer

If I were to get a dongle amp such as the a Fiio KA# model, would I be able to plug both a mic and headphones into that? Or would it not accept mic input?

no, most audiophile dac/amps are output only, if you want to have a mic in as well, you are looking for an audio interface. Unless you are getting a non USB mic, you probably don’t need one of those.

Okay, so if I decide to get an amp, I should just get a tabletop mic to plug in separately?

I don’t see why those two are related at all?

DT880 has various versions and the gist is that the harder to drive ones sound better but need more powerful amps. The PRO version is the 250 ohm one if I remember correctly (maybe there is an 80 one as well).

I would go for DT900 pro x in its stead as that is easy to drive, sounds somewhat better and needs no amp at 48 ohm.
