Hello crochet friends!

I’m almost done making blanket, but as I lay it out to admire my work… Horror strikes! It looks like my tension became looser as time passed…

I’ve never made a blanket before, and have read that blocking is a standard step to even out ones work. But… This looks really bad. The bottom right corner is 10cm longer than the top right.

Will blocking save my work and allow me to shape it into a rectangle?

Just want to say that (a) I love the pattern and colors, and (b) it doesn’t look horribly wonky to me. Blocking might improve it, but I don’t think it needs “saving.”

I agree. If this is being made for practical use, no one will ever notice such a subtlety. If it’s made to be laid out on top of a bed spread or something very flat, then I could see the concern, but I still think that it would still just appear normal unless viewed from directly above. Imperfections let everyone know it’s hand made! Beautiful work!

Blocking can only help (a bit), if you used natural fibers like wool or cotton. I can’t tell from your photo or post if you used acrylic yarn, which will not block.

I echo the advice about a border to make the outside edge more uniform.

Good luck with it! It’s a gorgeous pattern!

10cm is a bit long, blocking still might improve the overall appearance. What about adding a border to it?

I did, it’s the white border around the work. I’ll try to block it and see how far it will correct the shape. Thanks!

No problem! You could also try maybe sewing a material onto the back to kinda force the shape a bit more too!

        Good luck have fun!

I haven’t tried this yet but you might be able to run a piece of yarn through the rows that you can then pull tight so the length you want. For some reason I can’t keep my rows and stitches even enough to save my life.
