It’s good to revisit nearly every single thing about modern life that is considered “normal”, including things like lawns and all the water/energy inputs and all the pollution outputs they involve.

I hope they expand their view to more areas, such as the meat and dairy industry. This should be done at state level and federal level. Do things to stop subsidizing so much of it and start subsidizing other foods. Being vegan/vegetarian should never cost more than the carnist alternative, but that’s typically the price points I see. Something is radically wrong with that kind of outcome.

In a similar vein, I hope we can revisit light pollution.

Light pollution mitigation, while a massive issue, careful has many solutions already.

AZ for instance has Dark Skies Ordinances to help the astronomical observatories in the region. Lighting code that requires fully-shielded lighting fixtures that put light on target on the ground, and sets a lighting budget to encourage efficient design. It also often involves the use of specific color temperature lights that further reduce light pollution.

Much of the light pollution in major cities is from city managed infrastructure. So while individual and business requirements may be harder to implement, all those street lights, traffic lights, etc. add up very quickly and reducing pollution from those alone makes a massive difference.

I know there are solutions. We should actually implement them.

Are they gonna shut down coal power plants too or is that a bridge too far?
