We’ve made a art of this horology. To the point of a new theology. I say to hell with modern technology. And we embrace analog mythology!

ABNEY PARK, THROW THEM OVERBOARD

Wetshaving is one of those hobbies where ‘new’ does not imply ‘better’. And at the same time, it is one of those hobbies where there is a practical limit to how many things one can enjoy at the same time. So therefore I’ve decided to take a ‘new’ razor out of my regular rotation, and put an ‘old’ razor in.

The new is the Merkur 39C slant, which has been in my rotation for over a decade now. It was the second razor I bought, and is a very good shaver. But as I only have so much physical room in the drawer that holds my in use razors, out it goes.

The old is the ‘Airline Tech‘, that I got New In Box this spring. It’s a lovely looking razor, and Techs do have a good reputation for nice shaves. I’m very excited to put it through it’s paces. starting yesterday.

So… out with the old new razor. In with the new old razor. And so the circle of life – and shaves – continues.

I was about to ask what the story was with the ‘Airline Tech’ but then I noticed the link to your blog post about it. Pretty neat!

I admit that I’ve done this too, but my first fix for lack of drawer space is to find a bigger drawer :)

Excellent choice. I’ve been using my Tech this week, and am once again reminded of how much I love it.

    These look awesome!

I have a set from Mühle I bought a few years ago and while they work ok it would be cool to try a few different models, especially vintage ones.

    Any favourite soaps?

Favourite soaps? Uhm… all of them?

I’ve have quite a few soaps in my rotation. Mike’s Natural is still my yardstick to measure other soaps against. Arko still gives a great shave. Cold River Soap Work makes great lather. Asylum Shave Works’ soaps do the same. Derby and GzD is better than their reputation, and LEA/BEA is good for the GoBag. Periera gives me a good shave, even if I know some people don’t like them. WSP is good.

I think the only soaps I havn’t been happy with was Mamma Bear (now long gone) and a tub of Wilkinson Sword I picked up on clearance.
