Any post in a lemmy.world community I view from another instance (e.g. programming.dev) shows different content than when viewing from lemmy.world directly. Many comments are missing. There seems to be a massive lag, sometimes more than 1 day. Are instances really that far out of sync? It’s hard to contribute from another instance knowing that nobody will see my comments for ~days

Welcome to federation in a rapidly expanding universe.

The worker processes which receive and push out updates are adjustable and the admins are working to try and get that load right-sized. Even with that, the massive influx of users, both here and on other sites, is straining the network. I’ve only been here a couple of weeks, but federation is a cumbersome system for real-time communication; I’ve seen sync issues on all of the instances I’m registered with.

It doesn’t help that we’re all fascinated by this new toy and are hugging it to death.

Leave it be for a while. If you really are keen on participating elsewhere, grab a username there and go for it.

This appears to have been an unintended duplicate post by OP, but as there are replies, I’m only locking it and would direct those interested to continue the conversation in the more upvoted/commented on version of this thread here: https://lemmy.world/post/948347

    Sorry for the inconvenience!
