@protonprivacy How about an option in the vpn-app to always activate a VPN whenever the device is not connected to certain wifis?

Just out of curiosity, what’s the benefit vs having the VPN on all the time?

I was about to ask the same question, internet providers in many areas are allowed to collect and sell your history without your consent now. You should always have a good, privacy-friendly VPN active on all your devices all the time.

Mullvad and proton are the only two that have had to prove they don’t record anything happening on their VPN services.

And proton also encrypts the contents of all the drives on their VPN servers too.

Whenever the authorities compel them to hand over the goods, they never have any activity logs to hand over.

They’ve been forced to hand over the data stored on their users’ mail and drive accounts, but by design they are unable to decrypt it. But quantum computers exist now, so be aware of that.

Maybe op has vpn at the router level and doesn’t need an extra vpn layer. Or uses the adblocking features so only needs it outside home

Agree. Proton is not only about SECURITY but about PRIVACY. ISPs usually collect data and sell it, governments and third parties use your data. I wouldn’t go out there without a VPN.

@EmperorHenry I didn’t say anything different but within my home network the whole network is behind a VPN so I don’t need single devices to use a VPN. But as soon as I leave my home network I want the device’s VPN to kick in.

Okay, that’s all well and good, but you should still use a VPN on all your devices even though your whole home network is going through a VPN. It’s like a multi-hop that way

@EmperorHenry but isn’t that like using two identical doorlocks with identical keys? I don’t think this would bring any security/protection related benefits but instead would slow down the single devices connection.

Atleast on iOS this is already possible with the Shortcut automations.
