…I thought of the thousands of residents of Gaza killed in retaliation for the lives of Jews killed by Hamas. Then I thought that, if I were to state this publicly in Germany, I might get in trouble.

In 2008, when then Chancellor Angela Merkel spoke before the Knesset, on the sixtieth anniversary of the founding of the state of Israel (…) This, she went on, was part of Germany’s Staatsräson—the reason for the existence of the state.

But the statistics mix what Germans call Israelbezogener Antisemitismus—Israel-related antisemitism, such as instances of criticism of Israeli government policies—with violent attacks,

The Holocaust memory wars in Poland have run in parallel with Germany’s. The ideas being battled out in the two countries are different, but one consistent feature is the involvement of right-wing politicians in conjunction with the state of Israel.

Still, both before and after the October 7th attack, the phrase I heard in Ukraine possibly more than any other was “We need to be like Israel.”

For the last seventeen years, Gaza has been a hyperdensely populated, impoverished, walled-in compound where only a small fraction of the population had the right to leave for even a short amount of time—in other words, a ghetto. Not like the Jewish ghetto in Venice or an inner-city ghetto in America but like a Jewish ghetto in an Eastern European country occupied by Nazi Germany.

Except that they brought this “locking in” on themselves, very unlike the Jews in WW2. The same way the Germans got bombed to shit for what they did.

So you claim that Palestinians in Gaza got themselves locked in in an open-air prison?

      From the article:

The term “open-air prison” seems to have been coined in 2010 by David Cameron, the British Foreign Secretary who was then Prime Minister. Many human-rights organizations that document conditions in Gaza have adopted the description.

Israel’s military occupation has morphed the entire occupied Palestinian territory into an open-air prison, where Palestinians are constantly confined, surveilled and disciplined,” a UN expert said today.

They washed war over and over again and lost every single time. Terrorists attacks specifically against civilians (not just in Israel, hence the other borders are closed to). After that, what do you expect others to do? Just let them in willy nilly? Or be super cautious and close the borders?

What do the people in Gaza do to make it better? Vote a government who’s official goal is the destruction of Israel. Again, what do you expect others to do about their own choices?

To get back to the initial issue I have with the article: Do you think the Jews in WW2 were comparable to Gaza? Or is that more comparable to Germany?

First of all, your “answer” to my question doesn’t answer it. Apart from that it lacks any kind of historicity. For instance:

They washed war over and over again and lost every single time.

Here is a link from the United Nations to refresh your memory, to put it gently.
          https://www.un.org/unispal/history/

Since in your low effort reply you don’t even bother answering my question, I don’t see any reason to engage anymore in a conversation with you. I’m out.

Wow, that un site has a biased pro-Arab take on history. I guess that shouldn’t be surprising considering the UN’s behavior regarding them.

Arab nationalists started this conflict by murdering their Jewish neighbors who were legally buying land, making the British conclude that a one state solution was not viable after a few riots.

Israel declared itself a country with the borders the UN created for them, and immediately Arab Palestinians tried to destroy them with the aid of every Arab nation around. Against all odds israel won and annexed lands from them. Jews were ethnically cleansed from the West Bank and Jerusalem by these forces.

Then once again in 67, Arab countries tried to destroy Israel, provoking them into war by blockading the Suez canal. Israel launched a preemptive attack against the military deploying at its borders and won. Gaza and Sinai were annexed.

Terrorist attacks have been launched against Israeli civilians by Arab Palestinians pretty regularly since then, suicide bombings, blindly fired missiles, kidnappings, ambushes, culminating in October 7th.

The video you linked, doesn’t constitute an unbiased source, it’s just someone in the UN is trying to defend Israel, by deflecting the topic of the Israeli apartheid. Instead of talking about what Israel is doing to Palestinians, he talks about jewish population in other countries. Also this video does not include what were the responses he got. Anyways, to answer Neuer’s question:

              Where is the apartheid?

              In Palestine.

I used the United Nations link because I don’t have a better one. Do you have any alternative link to suggest with an unbiased source? Or that supports the historical claims you provide? I honestly hope you won’t have a wiki page to suggest instead.

Here’s more evidence of un bias against Israel, with citations.

I thought the YouTube video was pretty powerful, the takeaway is that the Muslim countries drove Jews from their lands while holding Israel to a different standard than they themselves hold. They complain of apartheid (which doesn’t seem like a valid classification considering 20% of Israelis are Arabs with full rights,) while they do worse and defend and justify a group that is explicitly genocidal and remains belligerent despite being defeated over and over again. These countries historically are quite happy to partake in genocide, apartheid, ethnic cleansing, etc., and polls indicate that is still the goal of most Palestinians today. They inappropriately accuse Israel of all the same behaviors via loose definitions, (most such definitions depend upon treating national groups like ethnic groups.)

For the history of this conflict, I find Wikipedia to be a better source.

FDD is not unbiased, it’s just pro-Israel as they mention in their site.
                  https://www.fdd.org/projects/israel-program/

The wiki page you provided mostly uses for bibliography Israel’s favorite historian, Benny Morris, which you try to portray as unbiased?

I’m afraid none of the links you provided escapes bias. On the contrary, they are propaganda.

In relation to unbiased sources -and since you didn’t like the UN link- I would go more with something like Jewish voice for Peace. I’m pretty sure you can’t claim they have:

a biased pro-Arab take on history.
