Why is The Hill even reporting on this? Why is this in any way something to be announced? This literally happens constantly. North Korea threatens to nuke the U.S. and then the U.S. says “we would obliterate you if you did that,” and then a little while goes by and it repeats. For years now.

They also can’t reach us. They’ve been trying for decades to come up with something that doesn’t just fizzle and plop into the Sea of Japan.

Range and guidance are not the whole package. I severely doubt North Korea has the ability to defeat US missile defenses.

Is an entire country worth losing just to be able to strike one US city? They’d be glass before the missile even lands thanks to SK. Wouldn’t even get to see it go off maybe.

Nukes only make sense if you expect you have a good chance of winning with them. They only make sense for those who are dying like Putin.

      More specifically

NK: Rawr we are a world power respect us

      US: lol

NK: Alright well how about giving us a pizza hut gift card

US: ok lil buddy here you go now go take a nap

      NK: Ok! _

Repeat for like 40 years. IIRC Barack finally ended that when he got in.

the White House warned that “[a]ny nuclear attack by North Korea against the United States or its allies is unacceptable and will result in the end of the Kim regime

It’s telling that the language is very personal. The Kim regime will be over if there is an attack. I think they know what matters to Kim most.

A nuclear attack on ANYONE should end the Kim regime.

And they know it, which is why it will never happen. They just regularly rattle sabers and pretend they’re tough.

My favorite was when Kim first took over and was being super aggro in a “look at me, I’m a big boy now!” kind of way and China just gently reached out and turned off their oil pipeline.

Welcome to the big leagues, kid!

This is the best summary I could come up with:

“The United States reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to provide extended deterrence to the ROK, backed by the full range of U.S. capabilities including nuclear,” the statement said.

The statement comes a few weeks after North Korea said it successfully launched a spy satellite that photographed the White House as well as Naval Station Norfolk and Newport News Dockyard in Virginia.

When the North Korean satellite was launched, the White House said it “strongly” condemned it, adding that the launch violated United Nations Security Council resolutions prohibiting North Korea from using ballistic missile technology.

“The president and his national security team are assessing the situation in close coordination with our allies and partners,” the Biden administration said in a statement.

“We urge all countries to condemn this launch and call on [North Korea] to come to the table for serious negotiations.”

“Any attack on space asset of DPRK will be deemed declaration of war against it,” a statement by a spokesperson for North Korea’s defense ministry read, according to the state-run Korean Central News Agency.
