wefwef is an awesome web app, but the (imo) relatively generic app icon doesn’t reach the same level of polish as the rest of the beautiful app. Any chance we get a more custom and unique icon?

I, for one, actually like the wefwef icon. It has a personality of its own.

Perhaps the ability to customise and select an icon would be the real solution here.

I think the current icon is fine, I just think it lacks some personality as it’s literally just the Lemmy logo on a generic background (no offense). As long as wefwef stays a PWA there sadly can’t be multiple icons to choose from, at least on iOS (see post here).

I don’t have a problem with the icon and much prefer it over the usual corporate ones!

I managed to make my own with a Pixel Launcher Extended mod for Android, I’m not entirely sure how I managed to do that, seems that it is using the icon of the Lemmy PWA?

I’m just sharing it here maybe for inspiration for a Monet compatible icon.

Yeah, maybe you can check making a shortcut or something like that? 🤔

I know iOS has limited customization, but it should be doable.

Not if you want to have it on the homescreen and not open safari when you tap on it, that only works for apps not web apps and even for apps it’s not ideal.

Ah, I guess because you’d have to make the change before saving to home, right ?

So we can’t programmatically update the PWA manifest and favicons, since “save to home” isn’t a logged in user?

Unless… maybe a query param for theming? 🧐

Yeah, I’m pretty sure on iOS you‘d have to delete and add it again (which I certainly wouldn’t mind). If you can actually switch the icon that way I‘d be more than happy to have that, though.

Yeah that would be limitation unfortunately.

That maaaay change with upcoming iOS versions, not sure.

On iOS 17 at least I don’t think it does. I’m pretty sure there was an option to choose a custom image when adding a website to your homepage, but that sadly doesn’t work anymore.
