Not a fan of Chik-fil-a, but this requirement seems ridiculous. The article states that accommodations have been made at rest stops to ensure a hot item is available on Sundays.

What other national business can you say gives their workers a guaranteed day off each week? Seems like a worker win to me.

The port authority should have negotiated this stipulation into the contract from the start. If Sunday operations was required, then it’s unlikely CFA would have bid on the contract in the first place. If moving forward, NY does require 7 days operation, I hope they honor the current contracts until they expire.

Why the hell would you sign a contract with a company that you know will only be available 6/7ths of the time?

I mean being open 7 days a week should have been a requirement for those rest stop locations to begin with…

Nothing against them, I’m not a fan of chick fila’s politics and wouldn’t go there. They do tend to treat employees and customers better than other chains. But this is a simple case of a service needing to be supplied 7 days a week. That’s the whole purpose of these rest stops.

The New York State Thruway Authority hasaccounted for Chick-fil-A closures on Sunday by offering other restaurants in the rest stops to provide additional options for travelers according to Thruway spokesperson Jennifer Givner.

“Our requirement is that we have at least one hot food option available,” said Givner. “If Chick-fil-A is closed on Sundays we have other alternatives for our customers.

Doesn’t really seem like they’ll have to do anything different.

So I’m familiar with this route. Used to be all McDonald’s, and they decided to replace them all at the exact same time with chik fil a. I’m generally fine with it, but seriously? This isn’t something they thought of BEFORE they renovated all these rest stops?

I drive 3 hours each Sunday and wondered how I’d feel if the McDonald’s along the route was closed. Wife and I would actually more likely eat something from the rest stop food choices. As an aside, anyone know how to link the article to the title?

food providers at transportation facilities and rest areas would require the food services to remain open seven days a week

It’s an unreasonable request for this kind of placement. People drive on Sunday, and need to rest and eat. I hope they would choose a better dining establishment, if given the choice, but hate-cock is better than driving hungry.
