I regularly play UNO atm and would love to hear your strategies when playing this game. Do you try to remember what cards were played e.g. the +2 an d+4? Do you switch colors if someone is about to finish? Do you also keep the color-picker until the end?
When I have two cards left and one of them allows me to change color, I don’t choose the color of the other card I have.
Always change the color with a number to find out what card the other player has
In two player games keep a reverse-skip-card chain ready for the end game
Keeping those cards is risky though because they’re high point value. So if the opponent does go out they score a lot.
We don’t do point values at my house tho
That’s a shame, the game’s a lot better if you do.
Not so much a strategy but a rules upgrade:
Too many games of UNO end in very predictable and unspectacular fashion because one player is clearly ahead but their neighboring players don’t have any cards to throw down.
Allowing every player to attack any other player not only mitigates this issue but also makes the game much more dynamic.
Playing a +2? Simply point at the player you want to draw two cards. With a +4 you could even let the attacker split the attack and say “you take 2 and you take 2”
This’ll make games significantly longer, though. I prefer to just end the round and start a new one
To each their own. I’d much rather play a longer but more exciting game. “At least it’s over quickly” isn’t exactly a ringing endorsement for a game…
Nice rules, I like them.
Suffer until it’s over😅
Depends on the version tho
My usual strategy is to prevent players from using one of their 1000 house-rules that they think is hilarious. Playing UNO is already bad enough, at least let me play with the god damn rules.
To actually answer your question, I don’t try to be too competitive at this game because the people that want to play it are very casual. I tend to play whatever color I have the most. If I can switch to a color where I have a lot more cards of I will.
