he, reminds me of coding up a bbs, or using the main players (MBBS/wildcat) and cramming as many modems into a box as i could get assigned by irq.

i miss this application called telix… it ( a term emulator) had this great language called SALT you could do a lot of telcom stuff with before the interwebs. the salt manual was one of the first programming books i purchased.

ive got a few of these old servers lying around with dozens/hundreds of GBs of ram… but my kids dont give a shit. i think it skips a generation.

those machines are kind of expensive to run 24/7. electricity for me is not cheap.

Sometimes you think you’re clever, then you read an article like this to remind you that you really aren’t.

He doesn’t talk about his resources, his influences, what makes him choose to spend his free time on these projects, and you’re forgetting your experiences that are taking up the rest of your time that would’ve been spent on this that round you out as a person.

These techno savants are great but if you’ve ever worked with one on a team you realize they traded a lot of things to get that absolute proficiency.

I like to think about Good Will Hunting when feeling insecure about how “dumb” I am for living a regular life.
