  • There was one day in my city where a catastrophic hailstorm absolutely brought the city to a standstill. Hail the size of golf balls clogged drains, causing roads everywhere to flood and stopping traffic, but more importantly, dented the skin and smashed the windscreens of like 30% of the cars in the city, writing them off.

I worked for an autoglass supplier at the time, and for the next 2 weeks, we were shipping every bit of glass we could get our hands on until the warehouse was bare. Glaziers were working 16 hours a day to fix the glass on thousands of cars. It was pretty wild.

There was a famous case of a Soviet spy who got caught by the FBI because of the way he carried his flowers.

In the US, if someone buys flowers, then while walking with them, the person normally carries them with the flowers up, stems down. The ‘normal’ way.

In Russia, to protect the flower tops from rain, snow, cold, and wind, the average person carries the bunch of flowers with the stems facing up/forward, flowers pointing down/back.

This spy bought flowers for some reason, and an FBI agent noticed he carried them the Russian way.

If you ever get a chance to read any of Joe Navarro’s books, he’s a very good writer. I highly recommend “3 Minutes to Midnight”

  • I’ve been aggressively cutting my food bill and making do with the cheapest staple foods. Not ramen, but like the cheap vegetables, bulk rice and legumes, not much meat, no dairy. Making my own sweets, bread, ECT. Lots of soups, stews, vegetarian curries. Getting free fruit from neighbours trees. That’s the biggest expense I can cut right now. I’m increasingly frugal on just about everything else, and doing side gigs wherever I can. I even stopped buying books and started going to the library once a week.

I wouldn’t say I’m struggling, but I’m all out of things to cut.

Same here. I had second thoughts about getting 128GB of DDR5 in my new rig in 2024. Thought I was being frivolous and foolish with my money. I mean, I was, but I’ve now got a rig that should carry me through another 10 years
