  • The material wealth is cool and all, but theres a shame and guilt that comes with being complicit in certain atrocities as well as the denial of material wealth to the citizens of many of the countries which we economically colonize.

And for an increasing number of people, the material wealth part is fading. Then there’s the illusion of democratic participation to which more people are beginning to become cognizant of. Oh boy.

The people that countries pay to pretend to be normal everyday users in order to spread state propaganda?

Edit: in this case ‘both’ refers to the image particularly portraying two countries

I like this take. There could be a venn diagram of these and punks and goths would both be likely to wear black.

    don’t trust improvement

*By a corrupt government which has proven itself to mismanage funds as a default.

Can’t really speak to NYC local but time will tell. Although to give them credit, most NYers I’ve met enjoy their public transportation. But the admonishment of general government expenditure distrust is completely valid imo

  • When you disagree with “gender is a social construct” in a casual setting, intentionally or not, you’re conveying the statement “gender is innately tied to biological sex, there are precisely two, and trans people are invalid”.

Wild to see such a binary view on this given the context. How can this be taken to be any less constraining (to someonen who views gender as a spectrum) than the view that “there are only two biological genders”?

Dandelion is giving examples on how it is not necessarily a social construct and providing examples and sources. That portions of gender have a propensity to be tied to biological sex.

Bottom image is from Generation Kill. That show was fucking amazing. Lauded as one of the most realistic depictions of Marines in the Iraq war and filled with digs at military leadership (like the one in the caption). Won a bunch of awards including Emmys.

  • Sex researchers Baumeister and Tice wrote about sexual economics.

“A heterosexual community can be analyzed as a marketplace in which men seek to acquire sex from women by offering other resources in exchange.”

From an evolutionary standpoint it makes sense that women wouldn’t want a partner that can’t provide security for the couple when the woman would be vulnerable if pregnant/nursing.

Young men in particular have fewer resources of value to offer than at any time in most people’s lives. To that point, it’s not like young women are dating any better, so even if they are willing to be the sole provider, most are unable to do so.

With the traditional partnership which historically provided companionship out of the question, men are left yearning for female companionship.

Another point the researchers make, is that men will always yearn, while women have a generally easier time abstaining until conditions are right.
