Nice to meet you! I’m interested in Linux, FOSS, and FOSH, but I’m interested in other topics as well :D
Boosts != endorsements. Opinions own. I treat Mastodon like an interactive RSS feed.

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Valve releases drivers, notes to make Windows work on Steam hardware, but refuses to support it - doesn’t offer support for ‘Windows on Steam Hardware,’ gaming company provides resources ‘as is’
31·4 days agoa lot of manufacturers are realizing that the OS is not profitable, just merely a vehicle to shove their products
the difference between Android and SteamOS is that SteamOS is funding FOSS devs who were already a part of the linux ecosystem and are contributing back to it
in contrast android built a walled garden while keeping the open source bits for theirselves
but yeah, its slightly possible that valve could become like google, but i heavily doubt it at the moment

Linux@programming.dev•How to Use AI for Linux Kernel Development
3·1 month ago@psud ohhh gotcha yeah, that’s something i noticed too reading the comments
i was hoping that it would be a good hook to get people to read the article, but seems to have caused a knee jerk reaction instead. i wouldve posted the entire article here, but unfortunately on mastodon im limited to 500 chars :(
i might have to rethink how i present my hooks in the future. regardless, thanks again for reading and giving ur thoughts! :)

Linux@programming.dev•How to Use AI for Linux Kernel Development
35·1 month ago@Franconian_Nomad hehe lol thanks
most people aren’t even going to read the post in its entirety and comment on a knee jerk reaction (already getting some which is always amusing). those comments aren’t worth addressing tbh
but overall i think this is a useful article as it tries to tow a pragmatic line. plus im fine with challenging my thinking, and if anyone has a useful comment worth considering, im open to it
there are other humans in other countries that are looking for a better life
the problem is that countries with declining birth rates dont see them as humans

1·9 months agoyup it is very active. u can follow the account here: @postmarketOS
as for why the devices seem old: it takes a lot of work trying to get the old android kernel working with the mainline kernel. its much harder than lineageos as we dont reuse the old android kernel and a lot of work needs to be done on both the kernel and userspace
basically one person is doing an entire engineering departments work
if ud like the newest phone, u can get a fairphone 5

@BrightCandle i would be surprised if there were a significant amount of users visiting the usa government websites through a Linux server
sounds oddly niche :P
