Vegan@lemmy.vg•TIL that environmental destruction caused by AI is nothing compared to animal agricultureEnglish
11·7 days agoTurns out we can walk and chew gum at the same time. I want to eliminate animal agriculture and I want to tone down/eliminate ai data centers too. I think animal ag is obviously a big problem, but the bigger problem is getting people to side with you on it.
In the current state, it is easier to focus on the ai nonsense because a lot of people are already in board with hating it. That isn’t to say we shouldn’t focus on getting people on the side of eliminating animal ag too, but that’s a slow process.

Fitness•I'm a beginner looking for 2 or 3 tricep exercises for people who struggle to feel their tricep being targeted efficiently and/or effectively?
3·8 days agoMy two favorites are the single arm overhead cable extension, and what a call a dumbbell hammer crusher. I do those on an incline of 45 degrees and use a neutral grip. The second being my preferred. I’ve found that easiest on my elbows and I can really feel my triceps doing the work.

Vegan@lemmy.vg•What is your argument against someone who calculates that agriculture kills a lot of small animals like worms, rats, insects, birds etc?English
4·9 days agoThat’s true that it does kill animals indirectly, but guess what we need a lot less of when we stop farming like half of it to give to animals at purposely kill? We kill less via agriculture
I use this every day. It’s not perfect, but covers all my needs. Barcode scanning is a life saver, though it doesn’t work about 5% of the time. Manual typing in bar code works in those cases, which helps

Fitness•For my own (6-rep max) notetaking, should I rush the eccentric phase to achieve a slightly heavier weight? Plus notation question about 160kg x 10/8 (from an old book)
1·1 month agoYeah I think it depends. If you keep to the guideline of 0-3 reps in reserve, you can stay pretty close to the same reps across your sets. Say if you’re shooting for 3x8, you could do 8 with 3 RIR, 8 with 1 RIR and 7 with 0 RIR. You can also just take everything to failure, but that’s beyond taxing.

3·1 month agoI agree that the first question is just giving you a weight reference, I wouldn’t worry about it too much.
For the second, I think for writing a program, that notation is fine, but if you’re keeping notes on your actual workouts, I’d write them separate if they end up different. For example, if you program 3x10 on the bench press, that will have to change workout to workout, since you’ll likely have to build up in reps. You might have 8-8-7 one day, 9-8-8 the next, 9-9-9 etc. It’s worth keeping track of that progress.

Michigan@midwest.social•Is Michigan’s 10-cent bottle deposit worth it?English
1·1 month agoGood points. I figured it has to help with returning cans for sure. Does it mention a comparison between Michigan’s $0.10 deposit compared to others that are lower?

Linux@lemmy.ml•Microsoft Reportedly Looking At Rebasing Azure Linux On Fedora
9·1 month agoYeah that’s fair, but at the same time, nothing has to go upstream as far as I know. As long as they have their own little sandbox to enshittify, I don’t care if I can get Linux support for my windows only programs

Linux@lemmy.ml•Microsoft Reportedly Looking At Rebasing Azure Linux On Fedora
10·1 month agoNot particularly, but if their big OS was Linux based, people could get their corporate support, and most of the software keeping people locked into windows would theoretically be able to run on any Linux distro. That’s the dream. I want to run solid works on Linux natively

The stereotypical role nowadays is a position where you are given authority over most people (in certain scenarios at least) and that draws in people with a particular psychology.

5·2 months agoThat honestly looked easy for you! Nice work
I use stepsy for step counting, energize for macros, openscale for measurement taking, and flexify for workouts. I like then well enough. I know wger combines a lot of that, but I didn’t want to move everything over.
As far as devices go, I’d check out gadgetbridge and see what’s supported and go with that. I don’t use a wrist worn device, so I can’t really comment beyond that.

Just so we’re in the same page, 3 reps in reserve (RIR) does not mean sets of 3 or less, or lock you into super low reps. What it does mean is that reach set you do goes sufficiently close to failure, as in if you did a set of 8 with 3 RIR, that means you did 8 and with the best possible effort, you could squeeze out another 3 reps. I keep most of my sets at 1 RIR, and the last set is 0 RIR, which means I either go to complete failure, or stopped on the rep before I couldn’t physically lift the weight one more time.
With all that being said, you can do sets of 3 with 3 RIR, or 20-30 with 3 RIR. Just make sure you’re pushing close to failure.
