Donating blood is linked to overall health and longevity. One leading theory is the removal of heavy metals and plastics from the bloodstream.

So I’m in the middle of reading OoCatBotBM and 100% this is absolutely top tier crackpot tinfoil hat wearing conspiracy. Buuuuuut it’s so compelling and completely my new head cannon. It explains so much, this is my new hypothesis until a better one comes along

Mechanical Keyboards@programming.dev•Is there any way to rearrange the positions of keys/switches entirely?English
5·4 days agoTime to make your own keyboard! If you don’t have a 3d printer you can buy one online. Then you need just wires, switches, and a raspberry pi pico and you can make one any way you want!
Not 100% programming but I’ve been getting into homelab stuff lately. Yesterday I got Fedora installed on an old MBP, and I’m hoping it’ll be a good moonlight client to my main gaming desktop.
Now the living room TV can be run from the MBP and folks can still watch TV while I’m gaming. Then if I’m in the mood I can do couch gaming.
The first attempt last night worked so well! I was shocked to be playing a shooter like Just Cause 3 without any visible lag. Very impressive!
For programming, it’s time I hosted my tarot card website on my home Ubuntu server. It’s been a few weeks of testing the site just by running it from the command line. I’m still a little shaky on the hosting stuff, but I think I’ll use a systemd service to ensure it starts up when the server reboots.

My favorite achievement was beating the whole game with the starter pistol. The final boss took so much ammo! Just kept running and gunning. I think the melee Dark Trooper Mark 1 was the hardest though, thing would just bum rush you the whole fight.
That was probably my first shooter, such a great game.

Mechanical Keyboards@programming.dev•Is the Dactyl Manuform the Ultimate Keyboard?English
2·10 days agoI went looking and found the Cosmos tool for customizing a Dactyl Manuform, that’s what convinced me to make one.

I was able to measure my finger bone lengths and customize the keyboard to match. Very cool stuff!
COOKING FOR ENGINEERS!!!
I learned how to cook from this site like 20 years ago! I still use that format on my home recipe cards sometimes, but now I’ve just gotten so used to it all recipes look like this on my head. Great format, taters guna tate.
The real site also includes a paragraph description, this is just a quick reference card that’s assuming you have already cooked the recipe a few times, not great for learning it the first time.
So many times I’m having a shit day or can’t fall asleep and then there’s a volunteer fire call and suddenly I’m putting my gear on in the back of the engine with the windows down going 65mph and everything is right in my brain
same issue here
Don’t forget to pickup an application while you’re there! Get a doctor’s note and they’ll hand you gear and a pager so you know when there’s a fire.
I started running volunteer fire a few years ago and it’s totally worth it.

Not just partners but really anyone it’s easy if you establish who is the head chef and who is the sous-chef(s).
I’m happy to cook with as many sous-chefs as we can cram into the kitchen. Heck I’ll put someone on a grill outside if I get too many. An extra two sous-chefs? Sounds like we’re about to have two extra side dishes. Maybe a pie. Now the dishes are washed before we’re done. Now they’re dried and put away! I can find more tasks! Floors swept, counters wiped, I can find tasks for a small contingent of sous-chefs! Mad with power.
And same in reverse, there’s something so hypnotic about just being the sous-chef. YES CHEF. Cut the veggies smaller YES CHEF. Just go with the flow. Ahhh
If you’re like me and love the idea of driving and using these…
join your local volunteer fire department! I joined 3.5 years ago and do not regret it one bit. We’ve got a tower just like that, and I get to train with it pretty much any time I want. The other day I set it up and took it all 100’ straight up. It was epic to see my town from above like that.
Volunteer firefighters are in extreme demand. Most volunteer companies have critical member shortages and can barely staff their apparatus for most calls. As a volunteer you can do as little or as much as you like. It’s very easy to get in unless you just never show up or act dangerously. I thought there would be this super hard test or something but instead it was a background check and my doctor had to submit a note. We chatted for a few minutes and they handed me a pile of gear, showed me how to put it on, and then setup the app on my phone and told me training nights are Thursday 7pm. That night I was on the fire ground for a building fire helping with tasks outside on the street (you aren’t allowed anywhere dangerous without special training).
It’s been actually really cool. My company paid for me to take Firefighter 1 and then I found out there’s a whole skill tree of classes you can take afterwards. It’s like a game with branching paths. Can’t take Officer 2 without first finishing Officer 1, Instructor 1, Firefighter 2, Vehicle Rescue Ops, Hazmat Ops, and Firefighter 1. And so on. After the two ops classes are the technician levels. There’s 5 different rescue paths, like rope rescue or trench rescue. There’s whole branches for driving, operating pumps, operating towers, working as an engine crew (hoses, nozzles, foam / water), and working as a truck crew (ladders, power tools, axes, crowbars and halligans). Wildland is a whole different branch of skills. There’s a whole officer branch for learning command and a branch for instructing new firefighters.
If you’re near Philly you can come check out my station SFPA! You don’t have be close to be a member. Some of our members live pretty far away but sign up for an overnight shift and sleep in a private bunkroom. They’ll go on any calls that happen overnight, then head to work the next morning.
The perks are great: help your local community stay safe, free training, free gym membership, free bunkrooms and showers if you do shifts, a lounge for folks to relax in, and really access to a community of folks who believe in strong mutual aid. I didn’t plan for this, but a whole community of folks who are willing to get out of bed in the middle of the night to rescue a stranger are way more likely to help you move or let you borrow a wood chipper. We’ve suddenly found ourselves with access to a tool library worth six figures easily. The friends you make doing this are very different. They’re weird for sure, but the bond we’ve got is very different from every other group I’ve been a part of. I’ll remember these folks for the rest of my life. There’s nothing quite like going into a burning building and knowing your crew has your back. They can be assholes sometimes or cringe, but it really does hit different.

This is great, and the easiest answer is to just water fast for three days before and keep fasting during. I’ve done week long fasts before, it’s kind of gross at first but after the first few days you get into keto and get energy back as you start to burn fat stores for energy
