  • I recently went to a local fighting games meetup for the first time, at a gaming bar. I’m 50 (have a completely grey beard so I look it) and almost everyone else there were pretty young. The first game I played was against this probably early 20s dude and as I sat down and got set up he was immediately being dickish, real cocky body language and some joking with his friends that was like, snide without quite crossing the line into insulting. He knew a bunch of people there and having never seen me before I assume thought I was some random old dude that didn’t know that he’d wandered into “serious” Street Fighter players.

I took a couple of rounds to warm up and then wrecked him in front of his friends for like 5 straight games until he left, telling his friends “I don’t even play this game seriously”. I’ve been playing Street Fighter for literally a decade longer than that kid has been alive.

He learned this lesson that day.

  • Guard “dogs”. Some kind of creature that fulfills the role of guard dogs, maybe trained to recognise a command word to stand down. If the players are able to scout or scry on the place beforehand they might be able to overhear one of the theives using the command. Depending on the setting you can make the creature something more interesting than just a straight combat, like something that tries to paralyze them for interrogation later, something that tries to go and alert the theives, etc.
