Skunks have dens yes. One denned under my grandparents’ deck one year. That was… fun.
Huh? That bird is obviously eating an Eohippus. (And yes, horses were once that small.)
Ahhh so the horse was just getting revenge then
No more brown people. That’s it really.

7·6 days agoMaybe we should just honor the actual creation of the holiday, which involved one woman pestering multiple presidents to create a national day of thanks since she felt our country was becoming too divided. (This was on the lead up to the Civil War, and ironically it was Lincoln that finally listened to her and made it a national holiday.)

Who started the assumption that herbivores were all sweet harmless cuddle bugs anyhow? Because they had obviously never interacted with a large herbivore before.
Looks like an orb weaver to me. Unless you’re unlucky enough to be allergic to their venom, harmless to humans.

That write up on finding the German family that vanished in Death Valley really did a good showcase of how easily that can happen.

Not in my family. Us women were expected to be the cooks, cleaners, everything. Every family get-together the men would just sit and talk and the boys would go out to play, and the older women would do the cooking, then come make the girls do the dishes.
My sister and I finally called them out on it, and to their credit they did try and make the boys help with the clean-up… although they never did that great of a job, because they’d never been taught how.
Along with a dumping ground for the ‘I’ve seen it already!’ comments, apparently.
Just FYI, this is my first time seeing this pic, and I’m glad it got posted.
Or, if someone doesn’t have the enzymes to digest it, it sits in their stomach and rots, which is fun.
It’s even more fun if you’re actually allergic to the proteins in meat, but I digress.

5·10 days agoSomeone else just linked the Tasting History episode where he actually makes Garum following the Roman method. It seems it’s a fair shade different in flavor profile than modern fish sauce.
What fascinates me is that it’s less salty in taste.
