2·14 days agoI am no expert, but my guess is that people like Mr. Wannabe Rear Admiral have a similar condition to this, despite not being health-related.

Ask Lemmy•What's a standalone movie that deserves a good sequel?English
631·15 days agoConstantine.
I know it may not have checked all the boxes for comic fans but it was a great movie with great characters and atmosphere.
I’ve thought about this several times since its release. Apparently I’m not the only one. Keanu was asked a similar question last year but about his own catalogue and he said the same thing, he wishes there had been a sequel.
A few months after that, I think I read a sequel might be coming.

movies@piefed.social•What's a lesser known Christmas movie worth a watch?English
2·1 month agoI mentioned this in another thread recently:
Cooper’s Christmas (aka Cooper’s Camera)
Jason Jones, Samantha Bee, Dave Foley and the very excellent Mike Beaver.
It’s my favourite Canadian Christmas comedy B-movie, a very specific genre to be sure.
Such a great movie.
“Dying slowly in America after all, can be a very expensive proposition.”
I always thought that was a notable line for a Canadian actor to deliver.
It’s free and the cops can’t stop you, like rotating cows in your mind.
This must be making the rounds since the McSweeney’s bit came out earlier this month.
Finest piece of satire I’ve seen in awhile!
- Just Friends
- Cooper’s Christmas (aka Cooper’s Camera)
- Scrooged
- A Christmas Story
- Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer
That was hilarious, more so I think because I had no idea what the premise was and had to figure it out on the fly.
Instant fan. Thanks for sharing!
They may not be hauling them in around my area anymore but it’s only because they still have them from the 90s.
Git that corn outta ma face!
This just reminded me that it’s been ages since I’ve seen an OddSatisfying community make All.
I checked a few and all of them have slowed down in the last year or so. Not sure why, but I miss them.

2·1 month agoHey this is a pretty cool tool! I’m glad I came across it in c/All just now.
I don’t have any weird cable stories than I can think of right now, but I do find it odd sometimes when a device will only charge with a USB-A to C cable and not a USB-C to C. You’d think more power capability wouldn’t be an issue but turns out it can be.
I noted your AI-weeder-outer line and went looking for evidence in the replies but didn’t find any. So far so good :D
It looks like it to me, based on past photos.

Is Lemmy on a Robocop kick atm?
I just watched the movies again last week for the first time since they came out. I’ve seen at least one Robocop post per day this week but four in the top 30 on All tonight alone.
At first I thought I had a bad case of Baader-Meinhof syndrome, but I feel like there’s another Lemmy thing going on.

Television@piefed.social•What TV series bungled a great concept that you'd like to see tried again?English
9·2 months agoWayward Pines. Great concept but then they basically explained everything in a handful of episodes and took the whole mystery out of it. Also, some of the acting was terrible.

monsters.
It corrects for those mistakes and sustains the mystery.
Another one I’d like to see redone or relaunched, West World. Incredible first season. Nothing left in the writer’s tank after that. That first season was so good though that I don’t think it can be rebooted.

3·3 months agoDavid Mamet’s “Heist”. Fantastic story, dialogue, and acting.
So many great one-liners.
“Your weight or your fate!”
“Everybody needs money. That’s why they call it ‘money’”.
And I might as well just link to the quotes page because there’s too many.

No Stupid Questions•How do I keep a 9 year old from constantly licking erasers and putting them in his mouthEnglish
16·4 months agoLong shot but it could be a sign of iron deficiency. Eating, smelling and licking odd things like paper, erasers, I’ve heard of these associations. I even read about a woman who would spend her lunch hour smelling the concrete in the stairwell. Turned out to be iron deficiency.

I’ve bought a lot of cables and chargers from AliExpress over the last 10 years. No issues.
Typically, what I get on there is either low cost accessories that are fine to be generic or they are highly unique items that I can’t find anywhere else (usually very specific replacement parts).
In either case, I always take the approach of “would I feel like I got screwed if this item doesn’t work out well?” And the answer is usually no because it’s like $2-5.
If the price is higher and I have concerns about the quality, I head over to Amazon and read the reviews because the exact same item is almost certainly there as well.
The buyer protection is pretty reliable for missing, broken in transit, and/or inaccurate items. I’ve only had one case over the years where a refund was denied.
Hope that helps!
