  • Correct on the practice. Ive spent way too much time looking like a dolt under my tree trying a bean bag toss, sling shots, etc. All of the methods require a lot of technique and patience. I consider myself pretty tenacious so ive wasted 10s of hours on this project and I regretted it.

In the end I did end up using a drone, I got extremely lucky and used a fishing reel attatched to a rod I hammered into the ground. Soon as I got it over the branch it for jammed up with fishing line as I assumed and I reached down and closed the reel bell. Then I slowly lowered it down to earth.

I got lucky that the weight of the drone was enough and the fishing line didn’t snag.

  • I have wasted a lot of time on this topic.

Drones are a crap shoot, the higher you get the more the weight of the fishing line drag and cross wind will mess with you. Flying through the branches then, more importantly, flying DOWN is impossible without the fishing line getting caught in the rotors. If you use a drone consider it a consumable.

Ive tried aggressive sling shots but its a ratio of the weight of what youre shooting relative to the drag of fishing line. Use too much weight then it won’t fly high. Use too little and then you dont have enough to pull your line down the other side of the branch back down to earth.

Ive considered using a crossbow but lost interest.

Its taken me a long time to accept that a huge portion of the American adults simply do not want responsibility or to make decisions. They want to go through life on autopilot and if they can delegate their autonomy to children, they will. AI is pure magic through, they can delegate without judgment, instead receive affirmation. It makes them feel great and it so much easier than being an accountable adult.

  • I agree but also would say they’re powerless to fix it if they want to. Everyone is on the hamster wheel, zero support from government and society for dual income families, run between work and childcare/school, after school activities, caring for aging parents. If you’re a single income family perhaps you trade better parental engagement for the crushing weight of financial woes. Parents are stuck doing the bare minimum and just surviving, not thriving.

For what its worth, despite missing the punchline of the actual measurement, the guy knows what he is talking about. Taking a dB measurement in C weighting over some integration period is how to do it for this scenario. I doubt his meter is calibrated but its doing a good job.

  • The last bullet hits hard. I’m appling for engineering management level roles for the first time in almost a decade and I wasnt prepared to have all my personal details included in my job application to be sold. But thats the game now, thanks for applying, the answer is no and we just sold your details. Thanks. Its depressing and demoralizing, I will carry this sentiment and distrust into my next job.

  • Hello fellow pumpkin head! I too have a fat head and once upon a time had a fantastic local optometrist who informed me that most all Maui Jim plastic temples are thermoplastic. He had a tiny bin full of extremely hot salt, he stuck the temple in, softened the plastic and formed it to my head. He repeated until they were perfect. 15 years later I still use them, somehow havent broken them. Highly recommend finding a great optometrist.
