I like self checkout because i can generally get finished and out of the store sooner than if I go through the cashier. But some grocery checkouts do seem to often have hypersensitive scales and the worst nagging if you’re 2 ms slow to get your item into your bag, or God forbid you take a moment to rearrange things and mess up the calibration. I imagine they have a terrible urge to prevent people from stealing a grape.

I have an Omron step counter, which is pretty accurate. Later on I got a smart watch (Pixel watch 3) which always counts far more steps than the Omron, like as much as 20% more. I assume it’s because it’s on my wrist, which moves a lot more than my hip, where the Omron is. And if it factors steps into calculating calories burned, it absolutely is going to be wrong.

I follow the Serious Eats recipe for ramen egg marinade but think their instruction for 6 minutes is way too soft. I put 6 refrigerator-cold eggs in boiling water for 7-1/2 to 8 minutes and immediately into the ice bath. I do turn the heat down, but not to simmering. Whites will be solid, yolks slightly firm on the outside and thick liquidy in the middle.

We have the same issue with California. It’s a huge state with a wide variance in climate, plants, soil types, etc but we tend to be treated as one region.

Even if you like the non boring appearance, the quality of the build is, to my understanding, terrible. Sharp edges on the steel, unevenly aligned everything, corrosion, the giant wiper gets too much stress and fails, etc.

I’m currently pissed off at my dishwasher. I had a Bosch 500 at my old house, it was great. Moved to a new house, dishwasher fails, I replace it with another Bosch 500. In the 4 years they took features away. The top rack no longer is hinged , the time display is gone, replaced by 3 LEDs indicating time remaining, and the delay start is entirely gone unless you use the app. Classic enshittification.
