I mean, she telegraphed that this was going to happen for the last week. Once she realized that her dreams of being the president of Venezuela hinged on the decision of a 79-year-old, addlepated toddler, she’s been scheming about how to dangle that shiny little peace prize in front of him to get what she wants. It says a lot about her character that she’d be willing to be installed as “president” by a hostile foreign power.

Given that the Nobel Prize is basically the moral equivalent of a cracker jack prize at this point, and given that it’s guaranteed to make the Toddler in Chief choke on a McDonald’s cheeseburger, they should give it to Obama. It was basically a “basket of deplorables” moment. Remember when Hillary Clinton said “you could put half of Trump’s supporters into … a basket of deplorables”? Well, the deplorable dipshits used that as a rallying call to say: “They think we’re deplorables. We should own that and use it against them”. Or something. Also, she was being incredibly generous for some reason saying that only half of them were that way, but I digress.

This “we are all domestic terrorists” chyron was flashing across the display during a panel discussion at CPAC with the same title. The discussion was led by a Nazi named Julie Pickren who was running to be a member of the state board of education representing district 7 of Manvel, TX. According to her, it was a provocative title meant to be tongue-in-cheek to highlight the absurdity of the rhetoric of the left in the wake of the traitorous assault on the capital on Jan. 6th, 2021.

Like the deplorables thing, this is another attempt by the traitorous Nazi scum in our midst to proudly own their shittiness and rub it in everybody’s faces.

To be fair to the person I originally responded to, though, Walter’s not the main character. It’s a lot more common to have unlikable sidekicks who provide a foil to the main character than it is to have unlikable main characters.

I don’t think the show is trying to convey that point, no, but Carol is definitely a self-centered, hypocritical asshole. Thing is, though, a whole lot of people (maybe even most people) are self-centered, hypocritical assholes. I quite like the fact that the main protagonist of the series is someone who was very much not cut out to be a hero, and who does what she does for completely ignoble reasons. I think it grounds the story and makes for complex characters; this isn’t “Twilight” or one of the other YA fictions. It’s convincingly real people put into a really fucked up situation and trying to understand it and deal with it to the best of their ability.

It’s fair enough if that’s not your bag, but I really like that about the show.

DHS released this as an official statement:

ICE officers in Minneapolis were conducting targeted operations when rioters began blocking ICE officers and one of these violent rioters weaponized her vehicle, attempting to run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them—an act of domestic terrorism.

An ICE officer, fearing for his life, the lives of his fellow law enforcement and the safety of the public, fired defensive shots. He used his training and saved his own life and that of his fellow officers. The alleged perpetrator was hit and is deceased. The ICE officers who were hurt are expected to make full recoveries.

The spectator was under the impression that it was a closed hearing - that is, a hearing that is limited to only certain select members (in this case, all Democrats). The spectator wanted to know why it was a closed hearing that only involved Democrats on the panel.

Bennie Thompson told him essentially that it wasn’t a closed hearing, that Republicans were also completely free to join it, but none of them did.
