The decision not to carry the speech live is not actually unusual: Networks usually weight the subject matter and context, and all have in the past declined to run speeches from Presidents Biden, Obama and Bush, among others.

Because the headline alone makes this sound like a bigger deal than it is.

The title is bordering on misinformation. They didn’t “ban” Mormons; they re-categorized them to no longer fall under the Christian umbrella.

Pre-industrial humans caused mass habitat loss, species extinction, and even climate change, and that was with their relatively miniscule populations and emissions. What quality of life are you imagining over eight billion people having such that we somehow don’t continue wrecking the environment? And how do you plan on putting the genie back in the bottle regarding all our polluting technological “advancements” that require fossil fuels and/or intensive mining? Who’s declaring to the world that plastics, electricity, and all forms of motorized technology are over, and how do you imagine this would be enforced?

Even completely stripped of all our technology, humans are still animals, and any animal species will wreak havoc on their environment when overpopulated. Hell you don’t even have to be an animal; go look up the Great Oxygenation Event or what happened when trees first evolved. What do you suppose Earth is going to be like for the millions of years required for it to adapt to the changes we’re making? Unlike monocellular organisms and plants, however, we are sapient creatures; if we can observe this is happening and know we’re the ones causing it, how is it not in any way a moral issue?

My exploration into the topic seems to concur: “Queens” is the standard game and “Star Battle” is the adaptation. Although most places use the terms interchangably.

Ah, yes this looks similar. The UI is weird though (why use a keyboard?). Also one thing I like about Clevergoat’s version is that unlike sudoku you never have to guess; you can always logic out where the stars go without the need to try out different combinations. Going through the different games being recommended, I’m starting to suspect that might be unusual. Thanks for the suggestion!

For this level of detail, streams of water are going to be easier to portray. Droplets require more detail to be realistic than the rest of the drawing is able to support. I think at this level they look more like lumps, unfortunately.

Even for work where sick days are unpaid, many businesses (especially small ones) are going to suffer having a worker missing. After all, workers are supposed to generate more revenue than their salary costs, so the excess value is still being lost when someone calls out sick.

Some people here may be watching Star Trek for the first time.

Whatever do you mean? I’ve been under the distinct impression that all Star Trek fans came pre-installed with at least one TV/movie series already under their belt from watching it as a kid.

Anyway, I cannot watch this episode without also dwelling on DS9’s Trials and Tribble-ations, and all the other additions to the franchise featuring the troublesome fuzzballs or references thereabouts. The Trouble with Tribbles such a dumb, silly episode, but it manages to hit enough of the right notes to be memorable and likeable. I find TOS a bit difficult to watch compared to basically everything that came after it, but I always enjoy TTwT.
