  • Wow, he sounds like quite the character. I’d not heard of him before, but this here quote did remind me of a similar one about habit-building.

IIRC, the idea there is that after 30-45days or so of doing the same thing on a regular basis, something then becomes a ‘habit,’ and out of building such life-habits, one can even alter one’s character so to speak. Or at least have a significant impact on one’s growth and effectiveness in life…

Also, “James Allen” has got to be one of the most common names in English, so the ID would certainly need to be researched(!)

In the wild, most individuals do not live past their first year but some exceptional ones survive up to 11 years. --WP

Yikes, that seems sad for a fox.

Natural predators of the Arctic fox include golden eagles, Arctic wolves, polar bears, wolverines, red foxes, and brown bears.

Still, if all those are lacking on Iceland, I guess it would naturally tend to live longer?

  • Something I wasn’t expecting when I moved to this Midwest city was the thriving skunk population. I only run in to them once in a while in person, but the warm weather nights are often filled with their scent.

While I’m quite sure I’d be absolutely miserable if sprayed in person, I’ve oddly come to enjoy their far-milder scent wafting in the air. There’s something unique and almost compelling about it, a bit like my occasional enjoyment sniffing gasoline at the pumps. Inexplicable, and yet there it is.

  • Okay, a quick search is suggesting that Midwest and East Coast USA is most vulnerable. If you haven’t heard of these things before and you’re not in that area then I reckon you’re all good.

The dangers of those suckers is that they have the potential to get in to the main root, killing that local tissue, which in turn brings down the whole plant. (unless maybe emergency-grafted I guess?)
