  • Percolation is how I would describe the front-loading of Coast FIRE.

    https://www.gocurrycracker.com/percolate-your-portfolio-guest-post/

I know it from Finance, but if there’s a deeper meaning in chemistry or other fields, similar to autocatalyis, I couldn’t say.

I do think the MMM chart has a weakness related to expenses. If you did ERE and cut your expenses to sub $10k or $7k your retirement number would be completely off. Unless you planned to continue living that frugally.

For me that was the chart’s strength. Since I use spending plan allocations, I just need ranges to set up the allocations. If I expect them higher at retirement, I can make them higher and the allocations are simply different. One set for the savings years and one set for retirement.

Those allocations first go through Profit First for work and business.

So, that’s an income account: then moved into the Profit, Taxes, Owner’s Pay and Operational Expenses accounts.

Then Owner’s Pay moves into Finance for the People allocations: Fun & BS, Bills & Life, and Future & Goals.

How do you picture the expenses at 50%? 50% savings rate or 50% into the FIRE journey? We have a ton of great FIRE groups in Colorado, but unfortunately not the Cities I’ve lived in. I haven’t been able to connect with others on their processes and approaches. Maybe, later into the FIRE journey the chart would break down?

    You help engineers with FIRE?

Yea, it’s funny because when I heard about them, I heard they made a cookbook after closing down. Like Miyoko’s new books. That it was just a local shop.

I only found the site from looking for the cookbook and found out they are still running and ship now.

I think they exploited the psychological bias that n=all.

They do it for elections and they do it for major news media.

When people see these candidates they believe all the issues are represented and organized for.

When people see news coverage they believe that all stories have made it into the news cycle.

Even at the lower frequencies. For elections that could be independents or fringe politics. For news that could be local news stations or even social media.

The truth is many many issues aren’t being represented and Many many more stories have not been told. If you look at what the national insurance pool does it could be said many are being suppressed.

    https://youtu.be/BYSFvq8sr7A

That’s also true for the courts.

We’ve decided that votes save Democracy (or it could be anything else). What I have not seen represented on the National level is why we are so addicted to votes to saving democracy (or your urgent issue) and if there are better systems.

Have you never had an obvious issue it seemed wasn’t reaching the national level?

Have you ever asked yourself who’s missing?

From candidates. From news stories. From landmark legal cases.

  • I have been trying to start my own FIRE blog.

Already got the domain, but I was going to use the email for another project. I’d been requesting a public record from a disposable (public) email address and the email messages keep getting deleted. What’s strange is this kept happening on a new email. So I’m thinking the City did it. Thinking of using that blog email for a request, so I can catch them doing it on a dummy site.

I’ve been using Profit First for a year and it’s been great. Highly recommend it if you have a business or do freelance. Even for regular work I think it’s great. I learned about it in Finance for the People which is another great book.

I personally prefer knowledge over capital. So I was realizing a blog would be the best way to showcase that if my consulting grows. Also planning a news offshoot site. There are stories the news doesn’t cover and I was pulling public records and doing data analysis on them and realized other people might have deeper stories.

I got one related to towed vehicles and City Insurance Pools (nationwide). Then a new one related to Crypto since my State began taking crypto from Coinbase accounts sometime recently. Each story is done completely. If you’re familiar with Thinking in Systems, these stories don’t have the usual boundaries. The gap I wanted to fill was lawyers and journalists saying things weren’t related, when I was finding these things are very related. I don’t think they realize they are making systems collide by ignoring them in mass.

I think there are easy problems to showcase and even solve that would make FIRE easier for everyone.

This month is Huntober for 100Devs.

I’m studying and seeing if I have a 100 hours project for some of these coffee chats. Looking to get a Senior Software Engineer position around March 2027.

Here are the approaches I utilize the most.

Alongside Weekly Finance Time from Finance for the People and the spending plan.

This High Agency read is pretty good too. A Huntober homework assignment.

  • I think, there’s some soft censorship too.

Either it’s the mods downvoting posts early or it’s the level of users they have cultivated.

I feel like many IRL communities have been hijacked in some way. Like the Denver and Colorado subreddits.

I can’t find anyone who hasn’t been mass downvoted and it doesn’t seem to align with the upvotes. It doesn’t seem like certain topics are off limits it seems much more like the entire idea of community organizing is off limits.

That might sound like a strange theory until you see how much the Governor is worth.

    https://youtu.be/f0RK_yjdMXQ

Not to mention smaller elections have brought that level of social media manipulation. This town had a mayor who won by like 8 votes and felt it was worth it to flood social media with posts about “how great the water is”.

    https://youtu.be/583G9pl_w_I

Now look at an Englewood, CO subreddit post about the water. There’s very little arguing, but a ton of downvotes.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/englewoodco/comments/1txrd3o/englewood_restaurants_filtering_water_or_lack_of/

    https://www.reddit.com/r/englewoodco/comments/1u19v64/is_the_water_just_a_lil_gross_or_actually/

    Meanwhile…

    https://www.reddit.com/r/Denver/comments/oy4vsz/psa_e_coli_in_englewood_tap_water_how_fun/

It’s not exactly the best water. It has had issues, but you get people jumping in to say it “meets EPA standards”. You see the same lines getting thrown out like someone has been leading what they should say. If you were to point out that EPA Standards is ambiguous and that many EPA standards have been lowered and with less enforcement, it’s like no one could even hear you.

The good news is, many people simply leave those subreddits or don’t participate. The bad news is, how powerful an effect on perceived consensus it can be to come into those threads without knowing the baseline.

Has no one done an analysis on subreddit votes?

I have been researching what would be needed to show correlation between the topics and the votes. Because you can still pull the rss of new comments and posts.

  • It’s partly because of the City insurance pool. CIRSA.

    A large part.

They supress and settle cases; then erase them via NDA’s. Often retroactively removing them from social media for winning cases. That has a powerful effect on public consensus around policing issues.

If you’ve seen Alabama Solution they kinda hint that the settlements are disconnected from the C.Os. I suspect that’s the issue with Policing in Colorado and it appears to be in all States.

When they make mistakes there is no feedback loop for correction.

In District 18, they won’t even accept a complaint about officers or the Police Department. The AG’s office does, but they won’t release any complaints (Police or otherwise). Since they won’t release complaints there’s nothing to suggest they are using them as a feedback loop of any kind.

    There are definitely bad cops.

I think we have a growing issue that Denver Metro police departments can’t attract and retain enough good police.

  • Yea I think the upper courts have been dismantling a lot of protections. What I saw was they sent it to the State Courts which aren’t as prepared to handle these cases and it takes much longer to get anywhere. For the cases that should already be illegal and ruled on this is kinda disheartening.

At the same time, I realized it’s a great opportunity to strengthen the States. If SCOTUS is refusing to set guidelines then community organized efforts across States have much more power to do so. There is always the ability to change public consensus on these issues. I think in the past it was manipulated to give a false consensus.

They also abused global tech laws under the threat of tarifs and that that has lost a good deal of potency as well.

As far as the 3 years and everything with the State and Banks, I’ve checked into this somewhat and there are ultimately no protections and limited enforcement in these jurisdictions. The DA’s often won’t even file complaints they receive let alone investigate. Our State AG plays by a similar handbook and receives complaints and never releases them. No investigations they weren’t already planning to do.

We have some bad corruption because the AG takes taxpayer dollars to fund lawsuits against the president’s administration. It’s sounds good because he is taking on important issues, but ultimately there’s zero transparency into how he is doing that.

Generally what happens is the orgs solving an issue never solve it enough to lower our “need” for them.

I wish I could say that I don’t think the prior, current and next AG are using this playbook.

If they wanted to help us they would need to bring transparency to the City insurance pool and consider defunding. At least that’s how I’d start.

I’m sure if more people understood these insurance pools there would be better solutions.

  • Gotcha.

I think, there are major differences between States.

Have you ever read Thinking in Systems?

The issue I’ve been seeing is the protections that bring together State legislature on important legal issues have largely been dismantled.

It used to be the Circuit Courts and even the supreme Court worked to set clearer guidelines on recurring important issues. Now it seems there are many times less Supreme Court cases and the Circuit Courts wait for two Circuit courts to disagree before they bump it to the supreme Court.

I don’t know everything, but that seems to be what’s happened.

The feedback loops are all broken.

Civil immunity was invented by judges. It was never law. We use ‘clearly established’ cases to counter that, but many of those a recursive and the entire system is broken.

For a case to be clearly established there must be another clearly established case to point to. So it was never meant to work from my understanding.

So Colorado is easily able to do as many Fourth Amendment seizures violations as they like. Until someone gets crypto “Clearly Established” we could be stuck with this.

It would be interesting to see the situation in your State. Not that I wanna pry. Because Utah for instance is very similar, but a Utah flavor of these issues. Same Circuit Court.

    Does all this sound crazy?
