Well I was more just meaning when I was growing up and this is going back to the late 80s - 90s. I saw a lot more British television than other European TV (in fact none of other) so didn’t exactly have much else to compare it to in the EU that was. From that and knowing they offered some good services such as post secondary education, healthcare etc it felt like a nicer fit for my ideas. Plus the amount of British words we tended to use.
Okay not a direct comparison but if I was playing a Paradox grand strategy game and the neighbor country started getting all fascist / authoritarian, I would want to group with like minded nations for protection. Hey we’re already in a defense treaty with them why not make it a more inclusive type agreement? Personally I always felt culturally closer to the UK (yes I know not there anymore) than the US and thought many of our policies mirrored the US due to location and held us back.
I looked it up after and yes it was I’m not sure I actually watched that episode though had watched many classic ones.
One day I’ll actually watch them all, classic and ones I mean. The older ones are a bit ummm more difficult to enjoy the same way. Always thought Capaldi was short changed in that his two parters, were less interesting than many single episodes of new who but they did try. And mostly I thought it was writing not acting that held them back,Capaldi rocked. But I did like they tried, cause so many old whos were least 4 parters if not more and people were asking but I don’t think they had the proper mindset to stretch it out even half as well.
Edit also don’t mind me, I just think the Doctor is one of the best characters/heroes of all fiction…he always does the best he can to save all he can. Mean it’s cheesy but gives me a warm fuzzy feeling when the story only gives so many options.
if only we could all push for what that character said was good. It’d make a better world.
There’s a Big Finish Dr Who audio story, well two I think, where the bad guy is named Nimrod. A scientist in their stories. So not everyone thought the name was an insult…or maybe they did, huh, but figure if the name gets to be known as a main guy the Doctor clashes with they can’t really think he’s a complete fool.
Though I always remember the cartoons first.
orbitz@lemmy.cato Murdered by Words@feddit.uk•"Do not commit the sin of empathy" - bible understander2·5 天前Must be great to have your feelings acknowledged by acting like a dick rather than understanding anything remotely in an empathetic way. Not a believer but thought Jesus preached helping not acting like an asshole. Oddly went to a few religious schools but probably ones they didnt consider correct. Jesus had good ideas, but maybe you needed some leeway is all (okay that’s sort of my Dogma movie take but I don’t think it works). For the record not directed at who I’m replying to just adding to commentary.
Like whenever did Jesus say act like a complete asshole to someone? I’d like one of those types to answer that once and say how their beliefs aren’t acting like a complete asshole to. It’s infuriating. Have some freaking compassion.
Sorry this whole religious bit makes me rant because it’s awful. Love thy neighbor is not hard to understand.
I’m an adult, always enjoyed milk but not much beyond a bowl of cereal or a glass (possibly chocolate) in a day. Don’t have it overly often most of the time but even if I do it’s not a lot. Still feels satisfying to have in my 40s. Of course I may be considered weird for other reasons by many but didn’t think the milk consumption factored in heh.
Edit thought I’d add, has at least protein in it so there are worse things to have with more sugars, though yes know lactase breaks down to carbs (or something similar I may have forgotten the name)

orbitz@lemmy.cato PC Master Race•Switched back to air cooling after over a decade on AIOsEnglish2·14 天前I may not have had a good air cooler but I rarely hear my pump unless I put it up high then it’s only cause I’m listening afterI changed the speed. Usually it works fine on regular or low. I haven’t had an air cooler for about 8ish years now either so good chance they’ve improved.
orbitz@lemmy.cato PC Master Race•Switched back to air cooling after over a decade on AIOsEnglish5·14 天前Haven’t checked out many of their reviews I’ll keep them in mind, at first I had them confused with guru3d who seem to come up often for parts reviews. I always like to find the worst points of a few reviews then if they don’t seem too bad maybe the product is acceptable heh. Though you do need a handful to check for sure.
orbitz@lemmy.cato PC Master Race•Switched back to air cooling after over a decade on AIOsEnglish101·14 天前I like the AIOs cause the fans don’t sound like they’re lifting an aircraft carrier. I’m more conscious of noise cause my gaming PC is near to the main tv so don’t want my gf to be inconvenienced when she is watching TV, I suppose I could get a lower sound fan that’d do it well (haven’t really looked at options for years) but most of them sounded loud when I switched and I like my toys too, though I swear my previous version was making a whining noise for awhile (pump I think) but long since upgraded since I forgot to check radiator size one case upgrade.
The MDMA bit was my first thought, a lot of things are sold as ecstacy and not that similar of a compound and probably less similar of an effect…mean from my rave days and all I had that experience.
I’m in there, I feel closer to Millenial than Gen X but not quite full Millenial. Think it’s also referred to as the Oregon Trail generation, due to it being a common early PC game to play in class when they taught us computers. I still remember first seeing the trash bin on a Macintosh grow fat when it had items in it, I thought it was awesome, years before Windows.
It does take a different attitude to watch old who I feel, I did start with new ones and watched a good chunk of 3-7 but all of 4. 4 is my favourite, but maybe just cause I want him to be and give the allowances of old who, I do wish I watched it new but had no idea what it was back then. That said Tenent is so very close to favourite he seems to have similar energy. Though Eccleston was absolutely fantastic of course.
All in all, the Doctor is my favourite frictional character so I do watch a lot old and new even the worst doctors (to be fair usually by writing more than acting) are more fun to watch than many shows.

I’ve lived where tap water tasted like shit, not quite literally but eveytime I went home I’d have to remember not to drink the tap water. Eventually that town got a better water treatment plant but I can sort of see it from that angle. We always had the big 4gallon jugs (again may not be correct but the bigger jugs that sit on top for a dispenser) for regular drinking water
Thankfully where I moved to (many many kms away) the tap water was awesome, don’t live there now but I still do tap water over filtered for the most part. Never seems that much worse so may as well.
Really the only reason you’d drink the other tap water was cause you’re hungover…also been there. Then you remember that there’s a water dispenser somewhere in that house cause no one drank the water from the tap in the town. Even the better water wasn’t great but still noticably improved.
Ya heard of me?
Who hasn’t heard of…(Stop now before I type out the script).
He was hilarious, but I hope he knows he probably can’t do it quite the same and maybe get replaced by the novice, homogenized milk. I really got no idea what fat content of milk is used for yogurt but think you get the idea. He could even be quite fabulous.

It may be less effective but you use it till the bottle is done, it’s not like milk it still works.
Always felt Donnie Brasco was somewhat underappreciated for the mob movies, and I definitely (okay maybe pretty sure, it’s been a few decades now) remember him from that with the line ‘you work for me now’. For some reason that one stuck with me. Seemed entertaining in his roles.
