Eh, the examples shown imo were 50/50 improvements vs downgrades. First few were good, couple looked really bad, then a few good ones again. I suppose it’s subjective. As long as it’s just an option that can be turned off I don’t think it’s that bad.

Tbf the “waiting for gigs” thing isn’t really accurate for the people that do it for their full-time job. A lot of them do both Uber and Lyft and will be actively declining gigs from one service while driving for the other. When you have a lot of positive reviews you get priority on rides, drivers in populated cities where people don’t want to drive are making some pretty serious cash.
All that isn’t to say that the lack of benefits and the like doesn’t eat into that significantly. Just wanted to dispel the myth that there’s nobody making a decent living off it.

Showerthoughts•A fun anti-monopoly law and anti-enshitification measure would be that once you hit 50% of market share you are forced to link to alternatives on your page
3·1 day agoThat’s actually super interesting. Any info on US based similarities (ie Ford/ Lincoln)? Are they for similar purposes or just following suit?
I’m not super familiar with current emulation software, but I’m not seeing where OP said anything about retroarch? They mentioned trying a different plugin called “remoteplay whatever” but unless they’re related don’t see anything about what the guy you’re getting snippy with (twice, for some reason, connection issues happen) is suggesting.
If I’m already one of the browns, can I paint myself a different brown?
Out of curiosity, what is it about an instance that seems to have limited reliability that makes you say you “love” it? I see a lot of people saying “I love this instance” or “once I switched I never went back” but I’ve seen practically zero difference between the three I’ve used, save for one that is federated to more instances. Are differences more apparent in a web browser or something? Why would one use an instance with iffy image uploading over any other stable instance?

I mean I know why but it’s annoying.

41·5 days agoBehind the Bastards has a really good episode on Volkswagen. I might have some of the details wrong, but the German government was subsidizing them for a while with the dream of having every citizen driving a Volkswagen. After the war they ended up getting involved in slave operated meat farms in Brazil.
A Glock
Well, calling in a drone strike would stop the shooting
The worst part is that it was a job-box we were locked out of. There were probably 4 drills and numerous other tools to destroy the lock and get inside.

Ask Lemmy•What's your opinion on utilizing our resources to further our ability to travel in space?
5·6 days agoSome space research should still be funded, but not as a major priority.
Most of our ancestors probably did think that before sailing the seas, they were focused on feeding themselves, fighting off diseases and other tribes, learning how to build. While others focused on making boats and sailing. Sailing became what it is now because society survived long enough for sailing to develop. Similarly, if we as a species can keep ourselves alive long enough, gradual progress towards space exploration will develop into much more.
Yeah, I’m feeling kinda called out by this thread… We got locked out of a job-box at work and I didn’t have my kit, I was fuming when we had to call a $200 locksmith for a masterlock and I was about to start throwing fists when they said the anti pick bumps “made picking impossible” and drilled through it. I was convinced that they do that with every lock, zero knowledge or experience and just go around raking people over the coals to destroy their property.
I fly a lot for work. Last month, I was landing on the air strip as my next flight began boarding. Managed to make the flight but fuck I wasn’t happy.

Not The Onion•Texas Begins Removing Rio Grande Island Officials Say Is Used to Hide and Smuggle Migrants into U.S.English
1·8 days agoI wasn’t sure if it was maybe meant to be:
Texas begins removing “rio grande”; island officials say [it] is used to hide and smuggle immigrants
Or something similar. Me not being familiar with the area and the whole title being capitalized made it hard for me to pick apart the proper nouns
Wait, you don’t mean to tell me this is a fabrication, do you?

93·8 days agoI thought the title was poorly worded but no, they are “removing” a fucking island.
The best is when you have a string of connecting flights that get pushed further and further back.
I like that the bottom comic was made by inverting the colors of the top one rather than just recoloring the cats.
