Hey, I made https://mapcomplete/ for stuff like this, which shows thematic maps based on a certain topic (e.g. benches, drinking water, …).
I was thinking about creating a heatwave-map and made some steps to it as well (for example: I’ve added ‘fountains’ and ‘splash pads’ to the drinking water theme, added ‘does this restaurant/shop have airco’, …).
Hey,
MapComplete developer here. If you have just added a place, it should be visible in MapComplete right away. If you are logged in, data is pulled in via the OSM-api as well, precisely to avoid those conflicts (and thus possible duplicate entries). And, of course, MapComplete supports adding new points as well, as long as they match the theme.
You can also use the “see nearby images” functionality to link Panoramax (but also Mapillary and Wikimedia) images to the selected feature (although, if you’ve just uploaded the pictures, it might take a few minutes before they are visible there)
I’m not planning on adding generic ‘add images to Panoramax’-functionality, as that would dilute the user interface too much.
The remote mappers cannot see what a building is and what amenities (such as shops, schools, …) it has inside.
Allowing to edit geometries always introduces complexity, so there is a fundamental choice you need to make there
The main website is not really meant for end users but rather as a tool for contributors; there are several other search engines and apps out there which perform petter on several respects.
It really depends on your scenario. In some African countries, access to both laptops and internet is rare; but phones are ubiquitous. Vespucci really shines there, even if it less user friendly then say iD (which is not useable in such a scenario)
Can we publicly see the images? In either case: you can reach out to the panoramax-devs here: https://app.element.io/#/room/#panoramax-general:matrix.org It’s always interesting to hear back from users, even if those are small usecases
Have a look at https://mapcomplete.org/food - it has reviews (through mangrove.reviews) and you can upload pictures of menus there.
As developer of https://mapcomplete.org/ - I cannot allow contributors to edit geometries. If I did, I’d have to show all geometries in the vinicinity, which would make it way more confusing for a non-technical user.
Even then, geometry cannot always be exactly determined (e.g. shops in a mall). And some communities even agree to never use geometries for some types of POI!
Ohhh, you did setup your own Panoramax? That’s cool :) Do the devs know that? There aren’t many instances out there yet.
Shameless plug for https://mapcomplete.org/ which makes it easy to see and contribute to OpenStreetMap. It has a bunch of maps per topic, making it easy to see what is interesting to you. It also guides (new) contributors, making it very hard to make mistakes.
My 2 cents: they buy this data from TomTom. But I’m speculating here

In Belgium, we consider it redundant and remove them, as the boundaries are completed
https://mapcomplete.org/ has reviews in some maps (such as the food map); but there are not a lot of reviews as of now. So, go out and review ;)
https://mapcomplete.org/drinking_water can help to both find and contribute data (and pictures) to OSM
You can add reviews and pictures with https://mapcomplete.org/shops
Checkout https://mapcomplete.org/trees . It doesn’t have fruit trees specifically though
Eh, there is more then just the OSM.org-view to show OSM data, don’t worry about that.
I prefer the toilets to be a different node, as one can then add many more attributes to it without needing a prefix.
