Eat China’s solar dust now.
acargitz@lemmy.cato Europe@feddit.org•Calls grow louder for Europe to deploy its ‘Big Bazooka’ in tariff negotiationsEnglish3·1 day agoUnfortunately for Europe and for human rights in Palestine, they might. Trump is sending Kimberly Guilfoyle as ambassador to Greece and her confirmation hearing has received a lot of attention in Greece. It seems both Ds and Rs are interested in helping the “loyal ally” stay balanced. In other words, so long as Greece plays the good boy doggo and keeps paying for US weapons, the US has an interest in maintaining the stupid status quo.
The only way out would be if our European partners took Greek and Cypriot defense and national interests as seriously as they take those of, say, the Baltics.

If your religion bans eating cheesburgers, don’t eat cheesburgers. You don’t get to tell me what I can and cannot eat.
Simple as.
acargitz@lemmy.cato Europe@feddit.org•Calls grow louder for Europe to deploy its ‘Big Bazooka’ in tariff negotiationsEnglish31·1 day agoFor example, in the Southeast, Greece and Cyprus are trying their best to hedge against Trump’s best-dictator-buddies attitude with Erdogan. They are both regularly bullied by the Turkish military and half of Cyprus remains occupied by the Turkish army. For both of them, staying on the “good boy” list of the US is a matter of survival. Meanwhile, everyone else is squarely focused on Russia and placating Turkey, when Cyprus is already living the post-apocalypse of their defeat at the hands of a Turkish “special military operation”.

Any religion and any flavour of religion that can function harmoniously with people that are not its members in the context of secular multicultural democracy is absolutely fine. Otherwise we have a problem.

acargitz@lemmy.cato Canada@lemmy.ca•Snap out of denial—Mark Carney’s rightward-rushing agenda is just getting started13·2 days agoIt’s kind of hard for any public opinion to sway a PM whose whole career has been the role of a central banker, ie., someone whose job is to know better than the whims of the moment. I think this will be exactly Carney’s blind spot, that he will be too hard to allow himself to not know better than the hoi polloi.

Instead: if even countries like China, Indonesia and Turkey can stand against the Gaza Genocide, what the fuckity fuck is stopping YOUR country for standing against it?
Like, remember when Al Qaeda condemned Isis as being too extreme? That really tells you something about Isis, doesn’t it?
Edit: disclosure, my own ancestors were butchered by the Turks.

The only thing I knew about them before this article is that the were proscribed at the same legislation as Palestine Action. Learning these things makes the proscription of Palestine Action that much more absurd and ridiculous.
