Oh that makes perfect sense. Iron pipes have a useful life span. They slightly corrode grab on to minerals than corrode a bit more.

I have had to replace my piping and heard that they have around a 40 year service life. The pipes in my house were 70 years old.

Copper is more expensive, but doesn’t need to be replaced every 50 years.

If you have the chance to replace sections of pipe while the walls are open it makes sense to, otherwise just know it’s on the horizon and wait until you aren’t happy with the water pressure. It could be decades more before you notice a supply side issue. That pipe look beefy even with with restriction.

I think this is in part due to scarcity and the declining middle class. Opportunities for people to have a fairly comfortable life are fewer and harder to achieve then they were in the past. As there are less resources the criteria to dole them out gets stricter as a way to determine who gets more of the shrinking allotment.

Education is one of the few levers left people can effect that will improve life. It’s easy to see the effects ripple backwards.

My fifth grader has academic anxiety about grades and how it will affect college and job prospects. To me that’s crazy; at this point it’s about the fundamentals of life. How could you know what job you want at 11? Much less what extracurricular activities will universities look for when you apply to college.

Russia has the capacity to take control of the situation, but I think it completely unlikely that they would take the steps necessary. They can have Crimea or the territories, but not both at this point.

Frankly Ukraine is too big for an army the size of Russia to take. They simply don’t have enough troops or equipment for the size of the territory they are defending and attacking.

It’s going to become a stalemate soon. Neither side has the manpower to change the situation.

If Ukraine could concentrate on just Crimea they still be short handed to take over such a large piece of territory.

Adoption is going to be hard depending on the state you are from. Where I’m from the state will basically hand you a kid for foster care, but make it a multi year legal struggle to adopt that child even if the birth parents relinquish rights

The comments here aren’t to solve some strangers problems but provide some solace in what is obvious a hard time in their life. Being involved and kids wanting one and yet not having a relationship is a super rough place to be in. Being reminded there are options may be enough.

Although 10 years old reading ability is basically they can read anything, it the higher order thinking and critical media skill that develop afterwards. Went through graduate school before I really learned deep reading skills.
