Your body is in a constant state of change your whole life, but there is still a point where you can call it mature.

I read it was 25. In any case, it sure isn’t 21.

6·2 days agoWell, yeah. A guillotine is a CEO’s natural enemy.
Corey Doctorow has a good article about this.
If Donald Trump ordered Big Tech to turn off all of your country’s chatbots tomorrow, nothing would change. Every one of your country’s ministries and corporations would chug on with nary a hitch. Households, too, though perhaps a few of the younger members of those families would have to do their own homework again.
Contrast this with what would transpire if Trump directed his tech giants to switch off your country’s Office 365 access, or to brick your Android and iOS phones, or to killswitch your John Deere tractors. Your country would effectively cease to exist.
Sure, tons of people are using AI, but that isn’t because they need AI to get their jobs done or even that AI makes their jobs easier. It’s because their bosses are convinced that they need to be using AI because it will change everything.
That isn’t even a good analogy, because chainsaw sculptures are a thing.
AI should do tedious tasks for creative people, not creative tasks for tedious people.

1·3 days agoLet me see if I understand you correctly. You believe that our views on sex work are the result of evolutionary biology. They are not influenced by culture or religion. Correct?
Given that, every civilization’s views on sex work should be very similar?
(Also, are you talking only about prostitution? Or all types of sex work? Or only certain types?)

1·4 days agoBut seriously, do you think this is a controversial view?
I don’t care whether it’s controversial or not.
Do you think people want children or friends to have to do sex work?
Obviously that work isn’t appropriate for children.
If a friend had to do sex work to make ends meet, I wouldn’t judge them harshly, though. It’s their body.
I’m not talking about human trafficking. If somebody’s being forced to do any kind of work, that’s slavery, and it’s wrong. I’m talking about somebody choosing to do the work voluntarily.
Would anybody go “oh wow I’m so proud of you”? I do not think so.
Most of the jobs I’ve had did not make anybody go “Oh, wow, I’m so proud of you”, but I did them anyway, because I needed the money. Most people don’t have a problem with this and they just accept it as part of life. The only time when people get weird about it is when sex is involved, and that’s due to puritanical ideas.

2·4 days agoDoes it matter if the object of desire is “real”
If it doesn’t matter to you, then it doesn’t matter.
Just because you know superheroes aren’t real doesn’t mean you cant enjoy the movie or low and behold have a wet dream of superman flying holding you in his arms.
Lo* and behold. The phrase is “lo and behold” lol
Imagination is good. Using your imagination is good. That isn’t what we’re talking about here. What we’re talking about is AI-generated porn, essentially.
Once I’m aware that something is AI-generated, it becomes gross and weird. That’s how I feel, but I acknowledge that you might not feel that way.
People have been thirsting over lara crofts 3d boobs, i am not even gonna get started on japan.
Was not expecting random racism.
LLMs do have purposes, and they had purposes before this current crop of chatbots dubbed “AI” came along. The problem is with “generative AI”.
Cory Doctorow has a great article about it here. It’s an “emperor wears no clothes” situation.
In the 500+ employee businesses Suresh studied, the only people who were promoted — or even spared from being fired — were people who professed “religious declarations of faith” about “the transformative power of AI.” Employees who voiced honest, informed objections to AI in the workplace were passed over for promotions or targeted for layoffs.
This has created a situation in which everyone — “boards, executives, employees, vendors, consultants” — has a strong incentive to lie about how much AI is delivering for their companies. Suresh says he’s seen announcements from publicly traded companies about their AI triumphs that he knows for a fact never took place.
Suresh says he’s never seen a successful enterprise AI project: “Every single one — we have seen 0% success in a year and a half.”
Additionally, all of the AI companies are still operating in the red. They still aren’t turning a profit 4 years after the release of ChatGPT.

No, not really lol.
The best analogy for this that I’ve heard is that it’s like saying elevators are a step towards teleporters. Calling it “intelligence” is a marketing coup. It is not intelligence, artificial or otherwise.
