How it is a privacy concern when paparazzi can snap photos of celebrities in public? This is good technology to improve security for citizens. I support it.

You realize that paparazzi are shitty bottom feeders, so comparing public policy to the dregs of humanity might not make the point you were attempting?

To answer your question though, the Dallas police have a history of using oppressive tactics from planting cocaine to kettling (exclusively leftist) protesters, so when they pinky-swear that they’re going to use this tech responsibility I don’t believe them for a second.

All you have to do is look at the other departments using this as a shortcut to actual detective work and arresting the wrong suspect to know how things are going to go; imagine getting arrested and the prosecutor shows a picture of someone who looks kinda like you to a jury. Add in the fact that these tools are inept at identifying POC and it’s a recipe for more systemic racism at the hands of the police.

There is no law that prevents me from using my mobile phone and record you. If you can do it, why can’t the DPD? That makes no sense. Google spies on you, and other marketing companies buy their data. So what? Why do you need privacy in a public space? That is illogical. I have cameras everywhere that records the street and I record people who are acting up. The police use body cams. Without recording people, perhaps Derek Chauvin wouldn’t have gone to prison. It is an irrational fear. European countries have surveillance. Cameras make certain people think about their actions when they know they are being recorded, and video can be used as evidence. Are you saying the DPD are going to “deepfake” you planting cocaine with the video? Lol. What a secure society needs is the removal of all guns except for hunting license, and police departments need body armor and packing firepower. They need to record everybody in public. I fully support that. Those are taxes well spent, if there ever were any good taxes. A country like Japan does not need cameras because they have a harmonious culture. American culture on the other hand is wild and Americans believe they are dignified in their rebellious ways, and being lawless, even looking like freaks with a bone across their nose. You can literally be in your yard taking your dog a bath and a psycho will show up to threaten to steal your car and threaten to kill you with absolutely no provocation. That is America at the bottom. I have been around for many years and I have never been abused by a cop. I am not a white person, and a white supremacist would not think I am worthy of life. Sure, there are corrupt and psycho cops, but I bet that the majority of people who complain about cops are inharmonious people who are troublemakers. As I said, wild.

I’ve never seen anyone in Dallas look like “a freak with a bone across their nose,” but I’m also not a racist piece of shit.

Good thing you don’t live here, so you don’t get a say.

Those piggy-boots must taste better than they look, and the rest of your unhinged screed isn’t even worth talking about.

May be because I don’t live in Dallas. I lived in the metro when I was younger. Good observation. Pat yourself on the back.

              They were all good observations.

              Glad you left.

We left because the area was bad. The area had a lot of criminal activity, drug overdoses, and drunks falling over the balcony face first, busting their gums on the pavement. I don’t miss urban D-FW. Well, if it makes feel special to accuse other people of being racists because they think people who like MS-13 with teardrop under their eye, which I heard that in certain gangs means they killed somebody, as being weird, and untrustworthy. You need to take care of your self-esteem.

                  It’s not an accusation.

                  It’s an observation.

And like I said, I’m glad you left. We don’t need racist shit bags in our city.

I don’t need your life story, I couldn’t give less of a fuck.

Right because you know what I look like from your computer screen. You know everything, don’t you?

I would recommend listening to the latest episode of the excellent podcast, “Search Engine”.

It’s actually a horrifying technology and copycat sites exist that one can just use right now. I can take a photo that someone posts to Lemmy and find their personal social media profiles, name, and often home address using just their face. I can find them at events they’ve been to, in the background of SOMEONE ELSE’s photo. It doesn’t matter if they’re wearing a hat, or sunglasses.

      It’s seriously concerning.
