I like knowing the names of stuff. Country rock is the stuff that was there before the volcano (or whatever dynamic process) showed up and took all the attention.
In the example shown, the country rock was emplaced over a period between the Ordovician and the Devonian, something like 130 million years. It shows a snapshot at that time, where limestone accumulated in a deep water environment and became sandier as sea levels dropped and more terrestrial sediment was introduced. Then it just sat there, safe from erosion, for 300 million years til a volcano happened.
I just think it’s neat, really. Boring as fuck, but still kind of neat.
I agree that it is good to know the proper name of things and I appreciate your post because of that and because of the schematic which I found intriguing.
…but here my comment was a attempt to put forward the humorous similarity to country rock music. … i did notice over time I’m not efficient at formulating jokes in ways that readers will get.
