This was done to pass the chore onto customers. Now that that they have those machines automated there is additional profit to be exploited.

McDonalds has been price seeking for years, long before it became popular. Their prices have gone up much faster than inflation and they recognize they’ve priced out the poor but see the middle class is unfazed so their revenue has still gone up.

Until people wake up to McDonald’s being the most expensive fast food place, their prices will continue to go up. They are profiting off people’s habits.

Idk… I used to go every few months. Then prices started rising. I went last year after skipping for 3 whole years and the price for two meals was $30. Never again. That’s literally what I pay for cellulose free meat at Smash Burger, and that’s also way too expensive to the point I’m not going back.

At this rate, the only reasonable places are mom and pop shops, so they get my business now.

      I’m mid range middle class.

You and I may have recognized this but based on their corporate revenue, the majority of their customers have not.

Financial news is something I pay attention to and McDonalds is expected to continue to have rising revenue. They are on record bragging about raising prices 5-10% in a quarter; not because they have to keep up with prices but because people keep going anyway. Free money bonus unlocked.

As you’ve noted, they are no longer price competitive with premium brands. But this is on purpose, while they aren’t positioned as a premium brand but they are charging premium prices.

My suspicion is that there are a lot of people who only go to McDonald’s drive thrus and don’t realize they are being gouged. They assume all restaurant prices are up 400%. People are primed to blame politicians for the price increases.
