But…the article doesn’t say ANYTHING about how/why she thinks it’s gender based. As much as I hated that show in general, and as much as I think Tim Allen is an ass, he WAS the 100% exclusive star of that show. It wasn’t an ensemble cast. It was Tim & Others.
I would bet that she made roughly the same as Tims co-star on that local show within a show. The guy with the beard that always said “No Tim. I don’t think so.”. I bet she made roughly equal to him. And I would bet she made more than his neighbor who stood behind the fence.
I’m torn on the kids. Because they had a bigger collective roll than she did, but individually you would rarely see them and Tim 1-1 in a scene. It was usually 4-1. 3 kids with the wife, and then there’s Tim. So I’m going to guess she made more than kids individually, but collectively they made more than she did.
And the reason for this is character importance. Tim is more important to the series.
I know I’m skipping shows here, but I watched an interview with Ed O’Neil. He said he, and the actress who played Marci didn’t get along in real life. She insulted him during downtime. He replied “I’m going to let that one slide, but I will remind you that if you want this to get personal, you will lose. You have no leverage. If you piss me off, I have a magical button that can erase and replace you. I just go to the network, tell them I want you gone, and studios will side with their lead actor. You’d be gone in an hour, and I’d have to explain the magical button all over again to someone who’s hopefully smarter than you are. Because you don’t have a button.”
