About a week ago, the Washington Post started requiring registration in order to access the gift link. You need to give up an email address (eg: a burner for just this purpose) in order to access gifted articles for free.
So in other words… not really free. They’re taking your data as part of the equation and giving it an account to be tied to.
Terminal enshittification.
Democracy Dies in Billionaires’ Hands.
Well I never, it’s as if some people are incentivised to make the world worse for everyone else.
Seems like a good reason to start avoiding their site.
