Thanks man. I have a pair of Redwings that I bought about 5 years ago after losing my old pair in a move, and I’ve been pretty disappointed with them. My other pair was probably 20 years old, and they were the perfect boots. I used them for literally everything. I would backpack in them, do hard work in them, and then polish them up and wear them around town. These new ones don’t fit the same. They seem well made and all, but I wonder if they’ve changed the lasts or something. They said that they’re still using old American lasts, but these are a lot bulkier inside than my last pair. I usually keep my boots for a decade or even two, so I figured the Nicks would be a long-term investment. If they’re really well made then I should be able to wear them for the rest of my life, as long as I get them re-soled when they need it. Did you go into the shop for the foot measurements, or did you do their little online paper trace method? One of my feet is slightly larger than the other, and I have wedge shaped feet, so I think I could really benefit from a custom fit.

They are definitely a buy it for life item assuming you take care of them and get them resoled when needed which mine are about ready for. I did the paper trace method where you mail them your fit sheets. I’m not sure what the process is now but I went through it about 8/9 years ago so it probably has changed. That said, it was a smooth and easy process but be prepared to wait for them. I’m unfortunately one of the small percentage of people who don’t fit into stock sizes so they had to custom build for me which they did an amazing job of!
