unless there’s some determination of clear majority for any one seat, there’s a runoff election 7 days after. the first round was last week, and today was the second round. the far right won more seats last week, but the majority of seats were determined today, which the left took handily. over the past 7 days, the french saw what was happening, and in most cases where there were more than one center/left or left candidates and a far right candidate, one of the left candidates dropped out so as not to split the vote.

Oh they have runoff elections? Jolly good, mate. I feel like celebrating with a cup of tea. Make that with an espresso and croissant I guess.

Espresso is Italian and croissant is (technically) Austrian but we appreciate the sentiment all the same! Cheers!

It didn’t. It’s a two-round system. It’s one thing to win a plurality in round one, it’s another to win a majority in round two.

This is exactly how it’s been going for the last N elections.

Except usually in Macron’s favor. But yeah, as soon as the choices shrink, people unify behind whoever is countering the Nazi cunt.
