Marvel is back on top with “Deadpool & Wolverine.” The comic-book movie made a staggering $205 million in its first weekend in North American theaters, according to studio estimates Sunday. It shattered the opening record for R-rated films previously held by the first “Deadpool” ($132 million) and notched a spot in the top 10 openings of all time.

Including international showings, where it’s racked up an addition $233.3 million from 52 markets, “Deadpool & Wolverine” is looking at a global opening of over $438.3 million.

It helps sales when you only sell 3d movie tickets when the movie doesn’t have any good 3d effects.

I went to a 2D showing here, so they definitely were selling them

The problem with going to a 0D showing was that you had to show up on the dot.

In my theater, there were 4x as many 3d showings as 2d.

It may be a cultural thing, here 3D isn’t as popular so most showings were in 2D.

The majority 3d screenings must’ve been specifically for opening weekend. I guess they thought people watching it on opening weekend are more likely to pay extra for the 3d showings if it was the only option.

That might have been the case where you live. Here there are always more 2d screenings than 3d (including on opening night), since people here think think of 3d as more of a gimmick and usually not worth the extra price

I didn’t even know this movie had 3D. I didn’t see a single 3D showing in my area.
